Real Review of Square Jaw Surgery: Square Jaw Surgery Is Not Over After Just Shaving the Bone

Today, using a real patient case,

let’s take a look at

long-curve square jaw surgery. ^^

This patient who visited us this time

was a woman in her early 20s.

Her concern was that her overall face looked

large and long from side to side, so she said she wanted facial contour surgery.

After looking at the patient’s CT scan, it was also clear that

her cheekbones were excessively prominent,

and her square jaw (mandibular angle) was strongly developed,

making the overall facial proportions inevitably appear unbalanced.

If you also check the preoperative photos,

the cheekbones are developed at the side and 45-degree angles,

and the angle of the square jaw is distinct, giving the face a square appearance..

So the patient’s surgical plan was set as follows.

[Surgical Plan]

Zygoma reduction and buccal fat pad repositioning

Chin T-osteotomy reduction, advancement, and vertical width reduction

Long-curve square jaw reduction and cortical bone rasping

At 1 week after surgery,

there was not much bleeding during the operation,

so only a yellowish bruise is visible.

There is still swelling remaining,

so there is no obvious visible change in appearance yet.

Minimizing bleeding during surgery

has a very important effect on the postoperative course and final results,

so I always emphasize this point!!!

At 2 weeks after surgery,

overall swelling and bruising have subsided a lot compared with week 1,

and you can visibly see that changes in the facial contour are gradually becoming clearer.

Likewise, the square jaw area is no longer prominent,

and the lines connect more smoothly, improving the face into a much softer and more feminine look.

At 1 month after surgery,

can you see that the facial contour has become much more defined and clear?

The broad, angular cheekbones and heavy square jaw line have been corrected,

making the face look much smaller and softer,

and improving it into a more three-dimensional facial line~^^

At 1 year and 2 months after surgery,

by this point, swelling and bruising at the surgical site had disappeared,

and a natural, refined facial contour had been established.

This is the time when the surgical effects are fully settled,

so it is an important period in which the patient’s satisfaction and quality of life improve significantly.

When the patient visited us after a long time,

she was very surprised by how clearly different she looked from before,

as the name suggests, not a simple procedure that just cuts the jawbone into a square and large shape,

as it involves resecting the bone into a long, smooth curve!!

Considering the overall harmony of the face, it is important to complete a natural and slim line

from both the front and side views.

In particular, it is important to prevent the face from looking long or unnaturally

like a “dog jaw.”
