The Reason a Double Chin Appeared After Surgery Was Not a Fat Problem

When you undergo lower facial bone surgery,

many people expect their facial contours to become more defined and the jawline to look sharper…

However, sometimes

some people say,

“After my square jaw and chin surgery, I feel like I developed a double chin instead.”

At times like this, most people wonder why this change happened when they did not even gain weight,

but it is not necessarily caused by an increase in fat.

After facial skeletal surgery,

the balance between the lower facial structure and the soft tissue can change, which can make a double chin appear more pronounced.

In other words, the bones have been reduced, so the volume seems to have decreased, but the soft tissue remains the same, making it look saggy and making the double chin appear relatively more developed.

The case introduced this time is also

one in which, after square jaw and chin contouring surgery at another hospital,

the overall facial outline became more refined,

but the area under the chin looked folded,

making it feel as though a new double chin had formed, which led the patient to visit us.

Moreover,

once the square jaw bone is reduced, the salivary glands hidden inside it also become more noticeable. After carefully analyzing the patient’s condition, it was clear that this was not simply because too much fat remained,

but because unnecessary fat remained locally under the chin,

and the muscles under the chin had sagged downward, blurring the jawline,

while the relative prominence of the salivary glands and their emphasized downward position made the supporting structure of the lower face look generally weak.

In this way, rather than fat, muscle, and salivary glands each causing separate problems, they were affecting one another and forming the double chin, so it was a case where meaningful improvement would be difficult to expect with only one method.

So the surgical plan was set as follows.

One week after surgery,

even though bruising and swelling were still present, the overall flow of the lower face had already started to change.

At this stage, the first noticeable change is that the folded feeling under the chin begins to lessen, and the boundary between the jawline and the neck line starts to appear gradually.

One month after surgery,

much of the swelling and bruising had subsided, and the contours of the lower face became much clearer.

Through muscle binding,

the support strength under the chin was restored, so the line did not collapse easily and remained stable,

and with the added effects of salivary gland binding and salivary gland Botox,

the unnecessary volume felt under the chin also gradually decreased ^^

When the lower facial structure is organized like this, a double chin is often not something that needs to be removed separately, but rather becomes a natural result. Just because lower facial bone surgery was performed, that does not mean all lower facial issues are automatically resolved.

If the jawline, muscles, and supporting structure of the lower face are not addressed together, a double chin can still appear quite pronounced regardless of weight changes.

So the most important thing in improving a double chin is not how much is removed, but where and how it is refined.
