Face and Neck Lift: What Matters More Than Scars Is the Surgical Design

For those considering a face and neck lift,

the most common question is not even about the effect of the surgery,

but rather, “Will the scar be very noticeable?”

A face and neck lift is a surgery that fundamentally improves sagging in the face and neck,

so it is unavoidable that incisions are needed.

What we feel in actual clinical practice, however, is that there is a significant difference between the “concern about scars” that many people imagine and the appearance they actually face after surgery.

Scars are not simply a matter of whether they appear or not;

they are planned in less visible locations that match the facial structure,

and they go through a process of natural change over time.

So rather than judging based only on the initial appearance,

it is important to look at the entire recovery process together!!!

Today, through an actual face and neck lift case,

I’ll explain a little more realistically

how things change as time passes.

This patient was a woman in her mid-40s,

who came in with deepened nasolabial folds and overall facial sagging.

She was as concerned about scars as she was excited about the surgical results.

I remember that during the consultation,

she asked several times, “Won’t the scars be very noticeable?” ^^

After a detailed evaluation,

it was not just the lower face that had sagged;

there was overall downward sagging involving the midface,

the lower face, and even the forehead and eyebrow line.

In particular, the boundary between the face and neck had become blurred,

and as the forehead and eyebrow positions had descended,

the eyes appeared relatively more closed off and heavy.

So the surgical plan was decided as follows.

This is the appearance 3 months after surgery.

At this point, the incision line has blended naturally

with nearby wrinkle lines and hair,

and it has entered a stage where it is barely noticeable in everyday settings ^^

As the recovery of the skin and soft tissue stabilizes,

natural facial movement becomes possible without tightness,

and the changes in the contour of the face and neck line

are what stand out first.

In face and neck lift surgery, scars are

the biggest reason people hesitate to proceed,

but in reality, depending on the surgical design and recovery process,

they are also something that can be managed sufficiently.

The incision location, the tension applied to the skin,

the precision of the suturing, and post-operative care—

all of these processes work together

to determine the final appearance of the scar.
