Post-Surgery Swelling: Time Alone Is Not the Answer. —

when swelling after surgery lasts longer than expected.

Today, I’ll explain simply

how this treatment works.

First, let’s look at why swelling occurs.

Why does swelling occur after surgery?

Simply put, it occurs when the blood vessels in the surgical area respond to irritation

by dilating excessively,

causing fluid to leak outside the blood vessels.

It works on the same principle as

when an area becomes red and swollen after being burned by something hot.

To reduce this swelling quickly,

two things are ultimately needed.

① Constricting the dilated blood vessels again

② Supplying the oxygen needed for recovery deep into the tissues

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy

addresses both of these at the same time.

How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a treatment in which you breathe 100% medical-grade oxygen

inside a sealed chamber pressurized to 2 atmospheres or higher.

Why is “2 atmospheres” important here?

Let’s use a carbonated drink as an example.

You cannot see bubbles inside a carbonated drink when the cap is closed.

That is because the higher the pressure,

the more carbon dioxide can dissolve in the drink.

The same applies to oxygen.

When the pressure inside the chamber increases, much more oxygen dissolves

in the plasma in the blood,

allowing oxygen to be delivered directly

to areas where the blood vessels have narrowed

or where swelling is severe.

In terms of actual figures, this treatment raises

the oxygen concentration in body fluids to 10–15 times the normal level,

and the oxygen concentration in arterial blood to as much as 15–20 times the normal level.

Thanks to this abundant oxygen supply,

the blood vessels that had dilated naturally

constrict again, helping the swelling subside.

How is it different from an oxygen capsule?

Some of you may wonder whether it is the same as the oxygen capsules

you can see at gyms or spas.

To give you the conclusion first,

they are completely different.

Oxygen capsules operate at 1.3–1.5 atmospheres

and have an oxygen concentration of only about 20–25%.

By contrast, IBEX Light2 is an official medical device

that supplies 100% medical-grade oxygen

at a minimum pressure of 2 atmospheres.

When comparing the oxygen pressure actually delivered to the blood,

IBEX Light2 provides 1,500 mmHg compared with 230 mmHg for an oxygen capsule,

which is a difference of more than approximately sixfold.

To expect medical effects,

this level of pressure and concentration is essential.

What is the treatment like?

IBEX Light2 is a single-person chamber

that you use while lying down comfortably.

The interior is transparent, so you do not feel confined,

and you can watch videos on the Smart TV,

making the treatment time pass more quickly than expected.
