Sub-Brow Lift + Non-Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery + Lower Blepharoplasty + SOOF
Hello, I am the director of 21 Plastic Surgery.
| If you find yourself unconsciously tensing your forehead when looking in the mirror, it may be a sign that the skin just below your eyebrows has sagged and is pressing down on your double eyelid crease. |
If a lowered eyebrow position is the cause,
a sub-brow lift may be expected to improve the condition,
but the cause may differ from sagging of the eyelids themselves,
so it is necessary to distinguish between them
through an accurate examination along with self-assessment.
From now on, I will explain in order
what a sub-brow lift is
and how to perform a self-assessment.

What Is a Sub-Brow Lift?
A sub-brow lift is a procedure that involves making an incision
along the natural border just below the eyebrow,
lifting the sagging skin beneath the eyebrow upward,
and securing it in place.

As the skin beneath the eyebrows sags with age,
the double eyelid crease underneath may be pressed down and covered by the skin,
which can make the eyes look narrower and more constricted.
Because the incision is placed within the eyebrow hairs,
the scar is often naturally concealed by the eyebrow,
and when the sagging skin is lifted,
the previously pressed-down double eyelid crease becomes visible again.
In particular, sagging on the outer side of the eyes
is often corrected at the same time.

Are You Unconsciously Tensing Your Forehead?
When the eyelids feel heavy,
many people unconsciously develop the habit
of using their forehead muscles to open their eyes.
Check whether any of the following apply to you.
• When looking in the mirror, I often notice that
my forehead is tense when I open my eyes.
• Opening my eyes feels unusually heavy and strained.
• It feels as though the double eyelid crease
that was present before has become covered at some point.
• When I take photos, my eyebrows
look unnaturally raised.
If many of these items apply to you,
sagging skin beneath the eyebrows
may be one of the contributing causes.
However, forehead muscle tension can also
appear for other reasons, so rather than making
a definite conclusion based only on self-assessment,
it is necessary to confirm the cause through an examination.

When You May Consider a Sub-Brow Lift
• When the skin just below the eyebrows sags
and the double eyelid crease appears covered
• When repeatedly tensing the forehead
also causes forehead wrinkles to deepen
• When differences in eyebrow height (asymmetry)
make the two sides of the face look different
• When the sagging is limited to the eyebrow area
and you would prefer the incision to be placed within the eyebrow hairs
For reference, if the sagging is not limited to the eyebrow area
but extends across the entire forehead,
a forehead lift may also be considered. This procedure involves
making an incision inside the hairline to lift both the forehead
and the eyebrow position together.
The appropriate method may vary depending on the extent of the sagging,
so it is best to confirm the exact diagnosis through a consultation.
| Category | Sub-Brow Lift | Forehead Lift |
|---|
| Incision location | Border immediately below the eyebrow | Inside the hairline (within the scalp) |
| Scope of correction | Localized area around the eyebrows | Entire forehead, eyebrow position, and asymmetry |
| Recovery tendency | Although it varies by individual, recovery is often perceived as relatively short | Depending on the extent of the incision, recovery may require more time |

Q. Will the scar from a sub-brow lift be noticeable?
Because the incision is designed along the eyebrow border and the direction of the eyebrow hairs,
the scar is often concealed by the eyebrow over time.
Q. How long is the recovery period for a sub-brow lift?
Swelling and bruising may appear around the eyebrows immediately after surgery,
and these generally gradually subside over one to two weeks.
However, recovery time may vary depending on the individual's skin condition
and the extent of the procedure,
so it is best to confirm the exact recovery period
through a consultation with your physician.
If you are concerned about sagging around the eyes,
first check whether the sagging is limited to the eyebrow area
or extends across the entire forehead, and then consult with a physician
to determine which method is appropriate for you.
Thank you~
