Until January, insured implant cases only allowed PFM prosthetics.

That was such a shame.

With the introduction of the better zirconia material, it hasn’t been used much these days~~

It was disappointing that the administrative side couldn’t keep up.. but it has been introduced starting in February.

What is the existing implant prosthesis PFM...?

It is white in color, but the material contains metal inside.

It had a porcelain layer only on the outside~

Before zirconia was introduced, it was a great material that was widely used.

If you had treatment 20 years ago, you may be familiar with it ㅎㅎ

Advantages and disadvantages of PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal) prosthetics

The advantage is the relatively low cost. It is cheaper than zirconia.

Because it contains metal inside, it is also strong. And since the outer surface is porcelain, it has good aesthetics.

As the gums recede, the black metal portion may become exposed.

What is zirconia prosthetics..?

These days, more than 90% of prosthetics are made with zirconia.

First of all, it looks nice.

The inside is white and the outside is bright, so it is aesthetic and also strong~

Advantages and disadvantages of zirconia prosthetics

Advantages Zirconia has translucency and color similar to natural teeth, so it is suitable for front tooth prosthetics.

In particular, since it does not contain metal, there is no chance of metal showing like with PFM.

Because it is made from diamond powder, it is strong. It doesn’t break easily~~

For reference, diamond is the strongest.

So food does not stick to it. Because the surface is smooth, it is more hygienic than PFM.

Using a scanner, it can also be made right in the clinic.

(It should also mean a faster production time~??)

It is not made by a person, but by a 3D printer. It’s much more precise~

In addition to the existing two machines...

Disadvantages

Its strength is greater than natural teeth. Being too strong is the problem.

The opposing tooth may wear down, and this depends on how well the clinician polishes it...

If I finish it well, there won’t be a problem.

The production cost is higher than PFM.

As for price, zirconia is more expensive than PFM.. But since health insurance implants can be made with zirconia at the same price,

from the patient’s perspective, that’s a huge win..!!

Zirconia and PFM prosthetics each have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Depending on the patient’s oral condition, I may recommend PFM as well~
