Hello~
This is Lee Juri, the chief director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
I had orthodontic treatment when I was young, but I think I need it again...
Did something go wrong with the treatment?
We get a lot of questions like this~
Of course, there is a possibility of "relapse," where the teeth return to their original position,
but pediatric orthodontics and adult orthodontics differ in purpose and method,
so there may be cases where treatment needs to be done again after becoming an adult.
Sangil-dong children’s orthodontics is different from adult orthodontics, so don’t miss it!
Today, I’ll talk about the differences between pediatric orthodontics and adult orthodontics,
and why children’s orthodontics is important~!!

Not all orthodontic treatments are the same!!
Many people think that only the age at which treatment is done is different,
and that the purpose is the same.
But Sangil-dong children’s orthodontics and adult orthodontics differ in purpose and method.
The difference between children and adults is whether
"growth" has stopped or is still progressing, right~?

When you visit for a Sangil-dong children’s orthodontic consultation,
the reason we take an X-ray of the hand is
so we can check how much growth is left!

250120 If the growth plate hasn’t closed yet, we can try to guide jaw growth~~
Adult orthodontics is carried out after the growth plate has already closed,
so it focuses on tooth movement.
That is why, for issues like a prognathic jaw or a retruded chin,
"surgery" is needed to improve the jaw shape itself~

241118 Adult orthodontics cannot change the jaw shape itself!!
On the other hand, what about pediatric orthodontics..?
Pediatric orthodontics is usually performed between the ages of 6 and 12.
(I recommend visiting the clinic around the time of elementary school entrance!!)
This is the period when permanent teeth are coming in,
and jaw growth is actively taking place.
If the jaw is narrow or a malocclusion is expected,
we guide normal occlusion while adjusting jaw growth~

A device that controls jaw growth
The key is!! helping the permanent teeth settle in properly.
So even if a child has had orthodontic treatment,
it does not mean that perfect alignment will be maintained into adulthood~
As teeth erupt during growth, they may become crowded,
and dental alignment can change in many ways depending on habits,
so additional orthodontic treatment may be needed!!
Pediatric orthodontics also takes much less time than adult treatment~

Conclusion
Just because a child has had orthodontic treatment does not mean the tooth alignment will last for life.
Children’s orthodontics is not simply for creating neatly aligned teeth!!
Its focus is on helping permanent teeth grow properly
and preventing and improving skeletal problems in growing children!!
Since pediatric orthodontics and adult orthodontics differ in purpose and method,
rather than simply thinking, "I’ve had braces once, so I don’t need them again," or..
"I’ll just get braces once when I become an adult!!"
it is important to remember
that checkups are needed at each stage~!!!
