In fact, implants show a high success rate~

Generally, the success rate of implant procedures is known to reach 90–98%.

It is not 100%.

Failure is determined within one month after surgery, and the failure rate can be as high as about 2–10%!

1. Factors That Determine the Success Rate of Implant Procedures

(1) The patient’s oral health condition

Since implants are placed into the jawbone, there needs to be enough bone quantity and quality.

If inflammation is left untreated for too long, the jawbone becomes insufficient, and a large amount of bone grafting may be needed.

The problem is that even if a lot of bone grafting is done, the amount of bone created is not equal to the amount grafted.

And the more bone grafting is needed, the worse the condition was, which increases the possibility that the implant may not settle properly!

(2) The provider’s experience and technical skill

Implant procedures require precise technique, so the provider’s experience and skill level are very important.

The more experienced the dentist is, the more they can reduce variables that may occur during the procedure!

(3) Post-procedure care and lifestyle habits

If proper care is not provided after implant treatment, infection or inflammation may occur.

In particular, some studies have shown that smokers have a failure rate 2–3 times higher than non-smokers,

and in practice, heavy smokers often undergo implant re-surgery because osseointegration does not occur properly.

2. How to Increase the Success Rate of Implant Procedures

Even if the success rate is over 90%, if the patient fails the surgery, it is very upsetting.

Here are some ways to help increase the chances even a little.

(1) Precise preoperative diagnosis

Accurate bone condition analysis and treatment planning through CT imaging are essential.

Also, combining this with a method such as navigation implant surgery can increase accuracy a little more.

Because it allows placement at the correct angle in areas with sufficient bone~

(2) Thorough oral hygiene management

Even after implant treatment, thorough care is needed just like with natural teeth.

Sometimes people avoid brushing because they worry the surgical area might have problems~

That is not good at all!!

It’s better to gently remove plaque~

(3) Quitting smoking is essential!!

Smoking reduces blood circulation, hinders the recovery of gum tissue, and can make it difficult for the implant and bone to bond.

Therefore, quitting smoking for at least one week to one month after implant treatment can help improve the success rate.
