A protruding mouth is not simply when the upper lip sticks out.

But if you have these symptoms, it may be worth suspecting it!

• You look strong or your chin seems small

• Both the upper and lower teeth are inclined forward

In most cases, orthodontic treatment that moves only the teeth,

without surgery, is sufficient.

When only the teeth are slightly protruded (dental protrusion)

When lip protrusion is not severe and the nose-chin line is relatively harmonious

When the issue can be resolved by extracting teeth and moving them inward

When the jawbone position itself is normal but only the teeth are tilted forward

Most treatments for protruding mouth correction are extraction-based orthodontics, where teeth are removed to create space.

As the mouth retracts,

the lip line becomes clearly more refined, and the side profile also improves neatly.

A strong-looking impression can become a softer one~

However, in cases like this,

there are limits even with orthodontic treatment,

and surgery may be necessary!

Orthodontic treatment that moves the teeth can improve the condition by about 2–4 mm.

However, as in the photo, skeletal protrusion where the upper jawbone itself protrudes has its limits.

• Cases where the teeth were moved far back but lip protrusion improved very little

• Cases accompanied by skeletal abnormalities such as underbite, facial asymmetry, or open bite

Because no matter how much the teeth are moved,

the bones themselves cannot be moved with orthodontics alone~

Only when orthognathic surgery, such as two-jaw surgery, is combined with orthodontic treatment can the root problem be addressed.

Diagnosis is key.

Treatment for a protruding mouth is not simply a matter of whether orthodontics alone is possible or not.
