Hello,
I’m Lee Juri, the chief director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
Have you ever thought about what makes adult orthodontic treatment different?
“Orthodontics works best when you do it young...
Will it still be effective if I do it now?”
Because of age,
many people hesitate to start orthodontic treatment.
Since growth has already ended, they worry it may be too late to start now,
and whether it can really be as effective as it is for teenagers.
But even if growth has ended, that does not mean the opportunity is over.
Should orthodontic treatment be done when you’re young? What’s the difference between adult and teen orthodontics?
Adult orthodontics is clearly different from teenage orthodontics,
but adults can still achieve satisfying results.
Today, let’s go over the differences between the two.

There is a difference in whether the bones are still growing...
The biggest difference is whether the bones are still growing.
For most orthodontic patients, the teenage years are when the jawbones are still growing.
So if growth has not yet been completed, that can be used to
guide the direction of jaw growth.

250120 We can check whether growth is complete through a photo of the hand.
Jaw-related issues such as underbite and receding chin can also be corrected.
On the other hand, in adults, height does not continue to increase, right?
Because growth is complete,
it is difficult to move the jawbone itself,
and treatment has to be finished through tooth alignment.
So if the goal of an adult patient’s orthodontic treatment is to improve an underbite,
surgery is required,
which means
orthodontic treatment alone cannot produce the desired effect.

250328 Adults sometimes undergo treatment for re-orthodontics.
Slow, but sure!!
Adults have harder tissue and more cautious movement,
so orthodontic treatment may progress more slowly.
During the teenage years, the gums and bones recover better,
so orthodontic responses are faster~
Still, there is a big difference in treatment cooperation.
If adults usually choose treatment because they want it themselves,
teenagers are not always easy to get cooperation from.
Adult patients often have strong motivation,
so they come to appointments reliably
and
wear elastics well,
which makes planned treatment possible.

250425 Partial orthodontic treatment can also be considered.
People in their 50s and 60s
can absolutely undergo adult orthodontic treatment.
Adults are not too late.
If you’re still wondering, “Isn’t it too late?”
you can let go of that thought starting today.
Because now may be the fastest time to begin.
The longer you wait,
the more things you’ll need to consider.

Jaw joint condition, whether there is dental prosthetics
and even the most important gum condition...
If you’re considering orthodontic treatment, please visit a nearby clinic and get a consultation.
Sometimes,
professional advice can help more than thinking about it alone.
That said, it would be very helpful if you first think about your goal for starting orthodontic treatment
and what you want to improve before visiting.
This has been Lee Juri, chief director.
Thank you!
