Hello,
I’m Lee Juri, the chief director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
Is there any way to fill the spaces between teeth??
Having teeth overlap can also be a problem,
but many people are also concerned when the spaces between teeth are too wide.
Every time they look in the mirror, the gap is the first thing they see,
and they end up covering their mouth more often.
A patient who recently visited our clinic said,
"I’m so embarrassed by my front teeth..."
There are several ways to fill the spaces between teeth,
but today I’ll explain how orthodontic treatment can solve the problem!

Advantages of orthodontic treatment over resin, laminate, and crowns
The patient has a noticeably large gap between the center teeth.
When the space between the front teeth is narrow,
it can also be filled with prosthetic treatments such as resin,
laminates, or crowns.
However, a downside is that the teeth become larger by the amount of the filled space.
Trying to close the gap with orthodontics
can be a more fundamental solution.
It may take a little more time than other treatment methods,
but it has several advantages.
- The natural teeth do not need to be shaved down.
Laminate and crown treatments require removal of tooth surface.
250220 It is only a small amount of shaping, but removal is still necessary.
Orthodontics moves the teeth without removing tooth structure,
so the natural teeth can be preserved as they are.
- It can improve the overall alignment and bite.
It does not simply fill the gap between the front teeth,
but also brings the overall alignment and bite into balance.
This can also be done for patients with malocclusion
or cases where the molars are also spaced apart.

- It improves speech function.
One of the serious drawbacks of gapped front teeth is
that speech may sound unclear or awkward.
This is because air escapes through the gap.
When the dental spaces are closed, it also helps improve pronunciation.
-
- It has a relatively long lifespan.
If problems arise later with resin or prosthetic treatment,
replacement may be needed.
Orthodontics does have a possibility of relapse,
but if you wear the retainer properly and manage it well,
you can maintain the alignment achieved at the end of treatment.
What are the orthodontic methods for gapped front teeth??
There are three main types.
1. If only the front teeth are spaced apart: "partial orthodontics"
---
2. If there are upper and lower alignment issues, tongue habits, or jawbone problems: "full orthodontics"
3. If the teeth are small: "orthodontics and prosthetic treatment at the same time"
Both clear aligners and wire braces are available for appliance selection~

For more details about the types of braces,
please refer to the post written above!
When partial orthodontics for the front teeth is not recommended
(proceed with full orthodontics)
This is the case when bringing only the front teeth together is likely to cause the gap to reopen,
or when overall space adjustment is needed all the way to the molars.

Also, when the cause of the spacing is
habitually pushing the teeth with the tongue,
habit correction should be done together,
and a retainer should be made to prevent relapse.
250512
If only a few front teeth are slightly spaced apart,
or there are no bite issues with the molars,
partial orthodontics is possible.
In this case, the treatment period is also shorter.
However, since only a few teeth are being moved,
it does not improve tongue habits
or resolve bite problems.
The third treatment method: orthodontics and prosthetic treatment at the same time
This applies when the teeth are small.
Because orthodontics cannot increase tooth size,
we close the gap as much as possible with orthodontics
and reinforce the remaining space with resin or prosthetic treatment.
In this case, the shape of the front teeth that the patient was dissatisfied with
and even the color can be changed to some extent,
so it is a treatment that addresses both function and esthetics.
The downside is the cost~
Changing only the appearance is patching things up;
solving the cause from the beginning is orthodontics!
Whether to simply fill and finish gapped teeth nicely,
or to organize them from the root so they stay healthy and last a long time,
that choice depends on the condition of the patient’s mouth!
Oh, and,,, !
Before deciding on any treatment,
please check why the gap formed first.
Jonathan is also famous for gapped teeth,
but I once saw on TV that an examination showed one congenitally missing tooth~
Because there was a missing tooth, a space naturally formed...ㅠㅠ
If the cause is not identified,
any treatment can end in failure.
The front teeth are related to confidence.
I will continue to be someone who provides helpful information so that patients can gain confidence when they smile.
Thank you!!
