Hello,
I am Lee Ju-ri, the chief director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
Today’s post is not relevant for those who are getting only 1–2 implants.

230817 A patient with multiple missing teeth
If teeth are missing on both the right and left sides,
and there are no teeth in either the upper or lower jaw,
these are patients who need multiple implants.
They are often cases where treatment was delayed because they could not visit the clinic for a long time due to dental phobia, or for various other reasons.
(As treatment keeps getting postponed, the treatment itself becomes larger.)
When consulting about implants,
there is one question patients always ask.
Doctor, is it okay to place several at once?
As the number of surgeries increases,
many people wonder whether it is really okay to place so many in one day.
Today, I’ll talk about the number of surgeries.

| Pros and cons of multiple-implant surgery methods |

| 2. What about the split-placement method? |
I have tried placing them in several separate sessions,
and I have also placed full-arch implants in one day,
but
the answer depends on the patient’s condition.
It can also vary depending on the patient’s personality
and underlying medical conditions.
I’ll explain one by one.
Each method clearly has its own pros and cons.
When placing multiple implants in one day
It is similar to doing a major house cleaning all at once in a single day.
It is something you decide to do deliberately.
It’s for people who think, “Since I’ve decided to do it anyway, I might as well get all the hard work over with at once!”

231109 Method of placing upper and lower implants in one day
Also, when placing them all at once,
because the starting point is the same, the overall treatment period can be shortened.
Adjusting the overall occlusion (the biting surface)
can also be done in one go by setting the reference point at once.
A drawback is that the surgery time can become long.
This can be somewhat addressed with a digital implant approach.
By analyzing in advance,
there is no unnecessary wasted time.
Another drawback is that eating may be a little uncomfortable right after surgery.
When implants are placed in separate sessions

240430
It is similar to doing small cleaning tasks several times in parts.
If implants are needed in both the upper and lower jaws on both sides,
it can be done in halves.
You can also place 2–3 implants at a time by dividing the areas.
In this case, there is less pressure to finish the surgery in one day.

240502 Especially when molars are missing, the period during which eating is difficult becomes longer.
The drawbacks are that anesthesia and surgery must be done multiple times,
and the overall treatment period becomes longer.
During that time, because the period without teeth becomes longer,
meals will naturally be more inconvenient,
and the biting occlusion can keep changing,
which may make it unstable.

At our clinic,
we have tried both methods.
Even now, before surgery, we fully explain the pros and cons of each method
and ask the patient which approach would be better,
and how they would like to proceed.
However, when treatment is done in separate sessions,
patients always say something like this in the middle of treatment.

Doctor, when will this ever be finished…?
If treatment is divided into multiple sessions, the burden of each individual surgery is reduced,
but the period becomes longer,
and the number of clinic visits in between also increases.
For people who work,
frequent visits can become even more inconvenient.
In general, if the patient’s overall health and
jawbone condition are good,
and they want to finish treatment quickly, we proceed all at once.
If a long surgery is burdensome,
or if the patient’s health or bone condition is unstable, we proceed safely in separate sessions.

240904 It is also determined by the bone quality condition
The treatment method is decided not by the number of implants,
but according to the patient’s physical condition and lifestyle.
After 충분한 consultation at an experienced dental clinic,
I recommend choosing the method that is right for you.
Have all of today’s questions been answered??
I’ll be back next time with another helpful information post.
Thank you!
