Hello,
I’m Lee Ju-ri, Chief Director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
In many Koreans, the lower front teeth are crooked.
This happens because there isn’t enough space, so the teeth grow in overlapping, like crowded teeth.
In younger years, it may not look very good,
but it usually doesn’t cause major problems.
As people get older, however, the gums weaken,
and the teeth often become loose.
In the end, it always seems to come down to implants~
Today’s patient also came in for a consultation about a problem with the lower front teeth.

- Why did the lower front teeth become loose?
250320
A patient visited because the lower front teeth were loose and asked whether they could be stabilized.
From the front photo, you may not be able to tell that they are that crooked,
250320
but once the mouth is opened wide,
you can see that the teeth are misaligned.
Since the teeth were not arranged neatly,
brushing was difficult,
tartar built up easily, and the jawbone around the gums weakened.
250320
After taking an X-ray, there was also inflammation at the tips of the tooth roots,
and the roots had become quite short.
The cause of the looseness was a combination of factors.
This even made eating uncomfortable.
In the case of the lower front teeth, because they are made up of thin bone around the gums,
the bone is absorbed quickly.
- Looking at the treatment process
After checking whether the remaining teeth could be preserved,
it was determined that the severely loose teeth could no longer be maintained.
The three front teeth with a poor prognosis needed to be extracted.
250320
We took CT and X-ray scans
and planned the implant treatment.
The three poor teeth were extracted.
The remaining teeth were not in great condition either,
but we decided to use them for as long as possible through gum treatment and other care.
Since this was the front tooth area, we decided to place the implants immediately after extraction.
This is also advantageous aesthetically.
250320
Because the front teeth are important aesthetically,
we maintained the shape with a temporary denture in the meantime.
For that reason, we proceeded with a two-stage surgical method.
The implants were completely buried in the gum,
so they would not be vulnerable to infection.
Please refer to the related post for what the two-stage surgical method is!

As time passed,
we raised the cover in preparation for taking impressions.
This is one of the preparatory steps for connecting the implant and the prosthesis.
After the gums healed,
we proceeded with taking impressions for the prosthesis.

Since the front teeth have an aesthetic impact,
it was important to match the shape and color as closely as possible to the natural teeth.
Considering the previously overlapping tooth alignment,
the implant prosthesis was designed to look straight and even.
The advantage of prosthetics is that they can change the tooth alignment
even without orthodontic treatment.

My teeth were crooked my whole life,
so I’m glad they look straight now.
Although the teeth had to be extracted because the gums became unhealthy,
while receiving implant treatment,
the overall alignment of the teeth became much neater.
This will also help with future gum care.
I’ll wrap up by sharing a post similar to today’s case.
Thank you!
