This is Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.

The case I’ll introduce today is about an 80-year-old patient who had endured discomfort for a long time while using dentures.

If you do not use dentures, you may think they are simply inconvenient when eating... Or that taking them in and out would be a bit bothersome.

You might think that way.

However, people who use dentures often say things like:

"They come loose when I talk." "I feel like I can’t chew well." "Even if you get used to them, there’s still a foreign-body sensation."

They often say things like the above. Above all, even when smiling, they end up covering their mouth with their hand, leading to a daily life where confidence fades away.

But through this case, we would like to show that with an appropriate diagnosis and a planned treatment, you can remove dentures and regain confidence in daily life.

The patient visited Godeok-dong Implant because they said they were uncomfortable from inflammation in the lower front teeth.

At that time, the condition was as follows: The upper jaw had been using dentures for a long period, and the lower front teeth had inflammation as the jawbone had receded.

There were many teeth that needed attention, but first we treated the inflammation in the lower front teeth, and overall we explained the need for scaling for gum care.

At first, the patient was reluctant about gum treatment, but after enough consultation, they agreed, and we were able to complete the scaling.

When starting treatment, our first priority is always improving the teeth that are causing the patient discomfort.

After completing the inflammation treatment, we also explained the current dental condition in detail.

Later, when the patient visited our clinic again, they showed a strong willingness toward treatment, saying, "Is there a way to use my teeth without dentures?"

Creating a customized treatment plan for the patient Godeok-dong Implant After sufficient consultation, we established a treatment plan that would allow treatment while leaving the remaining implants in place in the current condition.

For the upper teeth, we planned to place 5 implants. We took an approach of reducing the number of implants by using connected teeth in the middle to create the teeth.

November 29, 2024 The surgery day was performed under local anesthesia,

and the upper teeth surgery was performed at the same time.

There were no issues such as systemic medical history, and the procedure was completed through sufficient communication with the patient.

After surgery, the patient continued using temporary dentures and had enough time for the implants and bone to bond firmly.

After sufficient osseointegration was achieved, we moved into the full prosthetic fabrication stage.

For the final tooth fabrication, we precisely recorded the patient’s tooth shape, color, and bite relationship,

and were able to set the most natural tooth height based on the patient’s facial shape and lip line.

Since it was not possible to address every tooth, we approached the case by making minimal changes within the current dental condition.

The blue areas on the chewing surface are the screw-access holes.

After using them for a while and checking carefully, if there are any uncomfortable areas, we make corrections, remove the blue temporary material, and fill it with hard resin.

The lower implants would require another major procedure if touched, so the plan is to use them as carefully as possible, maintain them well, and make adjustments when needed.

Because teeth were missing and then placed, there may naturally be awkward and uncomfortable parts.

Please start with soft foods and eat slowly, and I hope you can enjoy the foods you want to eat and stay healthier. There are discomforts unique to dentures that others do not know about.
