Hello,
I am the director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
"I’m a office worker, so it’s hard to make time...
How many times do I need to come to the clinic
for an implant?"
In this busy modern world,
it is never easy to make time and come to the dentist.
As a result, many people ask about the number of visits
just as often as they ask about the treatment period.
To give you the conclusion first,
although it depends on the patient’s oral condition,
the overall guideline is
about 5 visits.
However, some people may need fewer visits,
or more visits, depending on their case.
From now on, I’ll explain very simply
why the number of visits differs from person to person,
and how long the treatment takes,
from the patient’s perspective.
- The first factor that determines the number of visits:
"When the implant is placed"
Sangil-dong Station Implant Visits: How many times do you actually need to go to the dentist?
Whether the implant is placed right after tooth extraction
or after waiting makes a difference in the number of visits.
- Immediate placement
As the name suggests, this is a method in which the implant is placed
on the same day the tooth is extracted.
This is often performed when bone quality is good.

Because the procedure is not split into separate surgeries,
this is the fastest way to reduce the number of visits.
- Delayed placement
If the jawbone is weak or inflammation is severe,
we first extract the tooth and then wait until the bone becomes firm
before placing the implant.

In this case, time is needed for the bone to stabilize,
so there are usually 1 to 2 more visits than with immediate placement.
▼ If you are curious about delayed placement and immediate placement cases,
please refer to my previous post.
- The second factor that determines the number of visits:
Whether there is a "second surgery"
Sangil-dong Station Implant Visits: How many times do you actually need to go to the dentist?
The number of visits also differs depending on whether the surgery is completed in one procedure
(one-stage method)
or divided into two procedures
(two-stage method).
What is second surgery?
After the first surgery, if the implant that was completely covered by the gum
is confirmed to have successfully attached to the bone,
it refers to the process of slightly opening the gum and connecting a small screw.

If this process is added, the number of visits increases by one or two,
and the overall period may also become 1 to 2 weeks longer.
If it can be placed all at once,
why split the surgery?
If the bone condition is good, it is sometimes possible to complete everything in one first surgery.
However, when the bone condition is not good,
trying to finish everything in one surgery can actually increase the risk of implant failure.
When a second surgery is needed
If you accidentally chew on food over the screw that is exposed outside the gum,

the implant, which is placed in already fragile bone,
may move before it has had a chance to integrate.
So, even though it may be inconvenient, we choose the safer method of dividing the surgery into two stages.^^
- The standard 5 steps of implant treatment
Sangil-dong Station Implant Visits: How many times do you actually need to go to the dentist?
If there are no other major variables, implant treatment usually ends through the following process.
- Placement: The day the implant root is inserted

-
Disinfection and stitch removal: Checking whether the surgical area is healing well
-
Second surgery: (if necessary) connecting the screw outside the gum

- Impression taking: A precise scan to make the final tooth

- Prosthetic completion

However, depending on the oral condition,
the number of visits may vary.
In special cases where a large amount of bone grafting is needed
or delayed placement must be performed,
there may be 2 to 3 additional visits!
How long does it take to complete an implant?
Sangil-dong Station Implant Visits: How many times do you actually need to go to the dentist?
Many people are also curious about how long the implant process takes.
The treatment period differs between the upper and lower jaws.
Lower jaw: The bone is very dense and the bone quality is good,
so it usually takes about 3 months to complete.
Upper jaw: The bone is relatively softer and weaker than the lower jaw,
so you need to wait long enough, up to about 6 months.

When people hear only the period, they often say,
"Does it take that long?"
and feel hesitant,
but many people are relieved because the number of visits itself is not very high.
However, please note that this too may become longer or shorter
depending on the bone quality!!
Please keep that in mind.^^
I understand very well the desire to finish treatment as quickly as possible
in a busy daily life.
But above all, an implant must be based on "secure fixation."
What matters more than going fast is building a solid foundation
so it can be used for a lifetime.
After carefully analyzing the patient’s oral condition,
we will reduce unnecessary visits
and suggest the safest schedule.
If you follow the precautions carefully
and visit on the scheduled dates,
you will be able to see results that are much healthier
and stronger than you expected.
Treatment is a process that the dentist and the patient go through together,
not by the dentist alone.
I promise that I will also do my best to provide treatment
so that this process is not in vain.
Thank you for reading such a long post today. ^^
