Hello,
I’m the director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
One of the first concerns that many elderly patients have when they come to the dentist is this:
“Now that I’m getting older, my teeth are falling out one by one...
I’m afraid the cost of implants is too much.”
When I hear that they have been holding back because they don’t want to burden their children,
I feel heavy-hearted as well.
It has always been painful to see people give up the simple happiness of enjoying delicious food because of ‘cost.’
So we prepared this.
If you are 65 or older, here’s something you should definitely know:
How to reduce costs by 70%!
At age 65, how much insurance coverage do you get?
Cheonho Dental Clinic, Are You Over 65? We’re Revealing How to Reduce Denture and Implant Costs.
“I heard it’s covered by insurance, but...
how much exactly does it pay?”
I’ll break it down for you clearly.
For patients age 65 and older, when getting implants or dentures,
you only need to pay 30% of the out-of-pocket cost.

Implants are covered for 2 teeth in a lifetime,
and dentures are covered once every 7 years.
For recipients of Basic Livelihood Security or those in the next-to-lowest income bracket,
the copayment is reduced further to 5–20%,
so the burden is almost negligible.
*Estimated costs as of 2026
(when paying 30%)
1 implant: about 400,000 KRW

Dentures (based on one side of the jaw): about 400,000–500,000 KRW

(※ There may be slight differences depending on the dental clinic and materials.)
A patient case where costs were reduced with insurance-covered implants and dentures
Cheonho Dental Clinic, Are You Over 65? We’re Revealing How to Reduce Denture and Implant Costs.
Let me share in a little more detail about a patient who recently visited our clinic.
This patient had already been wearing partial dentures in the upper teeth area for a long time,

and in the lower jaw, they had been managing meals with their own teeth and a few implants that had been placed previously.
However, they recently came in looking distressed, saying that even the lower teeth had started to shake.

After examination, we found that inflammation in the six lower molars had spread all the way to the roots,
and a great deal of bone had been lost...

It would have been ideal to save them, but...
tooth extraction was unavoidable.
“Friends tell me not to do a lower denture because it comes loose easily,
and having all six teeth implanted is too expensive.”
It wasn’t just one or two teeth,
and as the number of teeth needing treatment increases,
the cost burden naturally becomes greater.
Fortunately, the patient was over 65,
so insurance coverage could be applied!

- Lower jaw
For the space left by the six missing teeth,
it is not necessary to place all six implants.
I decided to place only four implants in total,
two on each end.

And we chose a 'bridge' method to firmly connect the space between them.

Here’s the key point!
Two of the four were provided as insurance-covered implants.
That naturally reduces the out-of-pocket cost quite a bit, right? ^^
- Upper jaw
We also examined the existing upper denture, and because it had been used for a long time,
it fit loosely against the gums.
It turned out that more than 7 years had passed since the denture was made.

Denture insurance can be renewed every 7 years.
We applied this benefit without missing it,
and for about 500,000 KRW,
a new partial denture was made to fit the current gum condition perfectly.
Because the out-of-pocket cost for insurance-covered implants or dentures is low,
a lot of people sometimes ask, “Does the insurance-covered option use cheaper materials?”
That is absolutely not the case!
Both insurance-covered materials and non-covered materials
use the exact same materials,
so you can rest assured.

It is simply that the government supports part of the cost,
and the quality of treatment or the grade of the materials
is absolutely not lowered. ^^
Honest planning changes a patient’s later years.

Just because there are many teeth to treat,
that does not mean a high-cost full-arch implant is always the answer.
Carefully identifying the insurance benefits a patient is entitled to,
and achieving maximum efficiency with the minimum number of implants.
That is the honest care we pursue.
We will think carefully about the most beneficial way to use insurance for elderly patients,
with the same heart as if we were caring for our own parents.
Thank you for reading this long post today. ^^
