Hello.
I am Ha-hyun, Director of The Star Dental Clinic.

I recently appeared on the MBC Good Day program, where I personally diagnosed the teeth of singer Jang Mi-hwa, who has been widely loved by the public for many years, and performed her laminate treatment.

After the broadcast, many people expressed interest in our clinic’s treatment system and senior laminates. Through this column, I would like to share the story I most wanted to convey as a dentist.
Jang Mi-hwa’s dental age was 45,
yet the marks of time could not be avoided
When I first met Jang Mi-hwa, she was so cheerful and energetic that her age of 80 seemed almost irrelevant.
She had also taken excellent care of her gums and teeth, having once received a diagnosis of a “dental age of 45” during a periodontal examination.

However well someone maintains their teeth, it is difficult to completely prevent the effects of passing time and many years on stage.
A detailed X-ray and 3D oral scan showed that Jang Mi-hwa’s teeth had experienced considerable wear accumulated over many years. As the outer surfaces of her teeth had become thinner, the underlying tooth structure was exposed, accompanied by discoloration.

When she told me that she would sometimes unconsciously cover her mouth when smiling or feel self-conscious, I resolved to help restore not merely “good-looking teeth,” but also the superstar’s “confident smile and self-assurance.”

“Minimal reduction” is the key
The senior laminates pursued by The Star Dental Clinic
Many people worry first that laminates might involve “removing too much tooth structure, causing sensitivity or weakening the teeth.”
Especially as people grow older, preserving their natural teeth becomes more important than anything else.
For this reason, esthetic treatment for senior patients must be even more precise and careful.

Jang Mi-hwa’s treatment was also performed according to The Star Dental Clinic’s principle of “minimal-reduction laminates.”
Using advanced 3D scan data, we very carefully refined only the discolored and worn surfaces in increments of 0.01 mm, then bonded thin ceramic tips that reproduced the strength and translucency of natural teeth.

It was a highly demanding procedure that addressed both the functional issues caused by chipped and worn teeth and the esthetic concerns caused by their dull appearance, while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
A smile is not defined by age
Ha-hyun, Director of The Star Dental Clinic
After the treatment was complete, I can still vividly remember Jang Mi-hwa smiling brightly again and again as she looked in the mirror.

Seeing her delighted like a child as she said that she felt much more confident when smiling and that it seemed as though she had turned back time gave me, as a dentist, a sense of fulfillment beyond words.
Many people leave tooth wear and discoloration caused by aging untreated, considering them natural signs of getting older.
However, worn teeth can reduce chewing function. They can also make the area around the mouth appear sunken, which can easily give the face a darker expression.

Laminates are not an esthetic treatment only for younger people.
Ha-hyun, Director of The Star Dental Clinic
By restoring the original form of teeth that have been worn away, laminates can help restore function, bring back a lost smile, and add vitality to life as an “anti-aging treatment.”
In an era of 100-year lifespans, a confident, healthy smile is a jewel that illuminates later life most beautifully.

The Star Dental Clinic will always be a reliable companion on your journey to regain that precious smile.
