Many people who are about to undergo rhinoplasty often wonder what they should do before surgery.

Of course, every hospital that performs surgery will provide related instructions one to two days before the operation,

but for those of you who still wonder, “Is this okay? Or is that okay?” and end up searching online, we are writing and sharing these pre-rhinoplasty precautions. 😁

☀ Fasting

The reason for fasting before surgery is for safer anesthesia.

The more exact reason we emphasize fasting is that when anesthesia is administered for surgery, the contents in the stomach may reflux.

So, at least one day before surgery, you should not consume food or drinks, and immediately before surgery, it is best to avoid even candy, gum, and caramel.

Also, before surgery, you may feel unusually thirsty and feel like you want to drink more water or beverages, and your mouth may feel very dry.

In this case, we recommend rinsing your mouth with cold water. (You can drink comfortably after surgery, so before surgery, it is best to just wet your mouth with water like this!)

• Medications that should be stopped from one week before surgery

Red ginseng, herbal medicine, omega-3, krill oil,

aspirin-based medications!

Because blood may not stop easily after surgery, you must stop taking them from one week before surgery.

If there is a medication you absolutely need to take, you must consult with the medical staff additionally.

☀ Remove polish & gel nails from hands and feet

At Cocoline, before surgery, we instruct patients to remove their gel nails and come in.

This also applies to manicure polish, including gel nails.

The reason gel nails and polish must be removed is also to ensure safe surgery.

After anesthesia, our body is in a state similar to sleep, so the condition of the body must be checked accurately in real time.

So, as shown in this photo, sensors are attached to the fingers or toes so that an ECG monitor can read them.

If there is gel nail or manicure polish on the fingernails or toenails, it cannot be seen with the naked eye and cannot be measured accurately by the equipment either.

That is why we instruct patients to remove them.

On the day of surgery, at Cocoline, if there are gel nails, gel nail stickers, manicure polish, etc., surgery may be difficult, so you must absolutely, absolutely remove them!

☀ Accessories & contact lenses

When you come for surgery, it is very common to arrive wearing contact lenses or accessories you normally wear (earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.).

It is best to leave all accessories at home,

and especially for those who wear contact lenses, we recommend bringing a lens case so you can remove them on the day of surgery,

or wearing glasses comfortably when you come in.

(There is a supporting splint after surgery, so wearing glasses is possible.😁)

☀ Just wash your face and apply only toner and lotion!

On the day of surgery, there may be cases where antiseptic must be applied to the skin, or where medication needs to come into contact with the skin.

Because of that, makeup with color should be avoided.

On the day, please wash your face and come in with only toner and lotion applied lightly.

☀ Comfortable clothing

After rhinoplasty, it is best to be careful when putting on and taking off clothes. So clothes you put on and take off from the top, like sweatshirts or T-shirts, are fine too (if you wear them, choose something large, roomy, and comfortable!), but it is better to come wearing clothes that are easy to put on and take off from the side, like shirts or zip-ups.

• If you bring a mask and a hat together, it will help make your trip home after surgery more comfortable.

• After surgery, there may still be lingering effects from anesthesia, so rather than slippers, stable sneakers that are easy to put on and take off are better!

☀ What if my period happens to start on the day of surgery? Can I still have surgery?

Surgery is possible. However, if surgery is performed during your period, bruising and swelling from bleeding may occur a little more.

If you take this into account when scheduling surgery, you may be able to undergo surgery more comfortably.

• If you are taking oral contraceptives, you do not need to stop them.
