Hello, this is Cocoline, who has focused only on rhinoplasty for over 10 years.
Winter tends to mean fewer outings and makes it easier to secure a recovery period, so it is also the season when more people begin preparing for surgery or thinking it over in earnest.
At Cocoline, rather than making hasty decisions,
we help guide you so you can decide on surgery after consulting and 충분히 고민 후.
That’s because we believe surgery is something that should be decided carefully, no matter how many times we say it.

Today, I’d like to talk about the recovery period after surgery, which may be helpful for those who are preparing for surgery.
Around this time of year, the question people ask most often is, “If I have surgery on the weekend, can I go to work/school?”
We previously uploaded the precautions to take before surgery in an earlier post, so please refer to that part as well :)
Today, I’ll explain the sequence of what happens from the day of surgery through the recovery period!
Day of Surgery
First, on the day of surgery,
a final consultation is held one more time.
During this consultation, final guidance about the surgery and pre-surgery design are carried out.
After that, the actual surgery begins.
The surgery time may vary depending on the case,
and for those who come alone,
it is safest to return home after 충분히 회복하고, so after resting at the hospital for a while,
you will be discharged after hearing the precautions.
When you return home after surgery,
as the anesthesia wears off, you may feel some pain or
feel stuffy because of the cotton packing inside the nose.
And since swelling starts to build up in earnest after surgery,
rather than lying completely flat,
we recommend placing your pillow higher and lying slightly propped up.

Also, a little walking helps reduce swelling, so
we recommend slowly walking a little from the day of surgery!
As a personal tip,
having warm tea in the morning can also be very helpful :)
From the day of surgery
until one month later, you should not blow your nose forcefully,
so let it come out naturally and
wipe it away!
Day 1 After Surgery
After confirming that the bleeding has stopped,
you must disinfect inside the nose yourself until the 1-week follow-up visit.
In addition, until before the 1-week visit, water must not touch your face at all, so you need to be careful in all daily activities.
(Reason water should not touch it: the splint could come off)
Also, before the 1-week mark, this is usually the time when swelling and bruising can become significant,
so if you go outside, be sure to apply sunscreen!
(At Cocoline, we also provide bruise cream, so please apply a small amount at night.)

At this time, dietary habits and compresses can help greatly in reducing swelling,
so please avoid foods that are too stimulating or too salty.
Compress method:
Cold compress from the day of surgery to day 3
Warm compress from day 4 to 1 week
It should not touch the nose directly,
and it is safest to do it on both sides of the face!
And many people ask about the difference between warm and cold compresses,
so let me explain briefly!
Cold compress: to prevent excessive swelling early on
Warm compress: to help swelling that has already formed go down faster
We recommend using the appropriate compress method for the timing and applying it to swelling management after surgery.

And because washing your face is not easy,
many people use cleansing pads or cleansing water,
but since your skin may become irritated and dry,
use a damp towel and gently wipe only the skin on the cheeks, forehead, behind the ears, etc.
※Whether daily life is possible
Simple daily activities are possible.
However, if there are inconvenient aspects,
you cannot bend your head forward to wash your hair,
and since the splint and tape have not been removed,
it may affect work or school attendance.
In such cases, we recommend getting your hair washed at a hair salon
and wearing a mask and a hat!
1 Week After Surgery
Finally, the stuffy splint and tape are removed.
Then the stitches are removed, and you can receive swelling management care.
(At Cocoline, swelling LED care is available.)
At this point, since all externally visible items are removed,
you can begin washing your face and wearing makeup.

But when washing your hair, you still should not bend your head forward,
so when washing your hair, stand up and tilt your head slightly back.
From this point on, there is no need to continue compresses or disinfection.
(If the swelling is severe, please proceed selectively!)
2 Weeks After Surgery
At this time, you will visit the hospital once more,
and at the 2-week mark, we will check whether any stitches remain inside the nose,
whether it is healing well,
and whether the operated nose is settling properly, etc.
And congratulations.
After 2 weeks, you can bend your head forward
to wash your hair!
And around 2 weeks later,
since a lot of sebum can build up on the nose,
many people ask about using cleansing oil, exfoliators, peeling gels, and similar products.
Since the skin at the surgical area may still be sensitive,
we recommend starting them slowly only after at least 1 month.

To explain this for office workers,
It would be best if you can rest well for about a week,
but if that is not possible,
on the day of surgery and the next day (day 1),
you should be able to rest at home without any special schedule,
and
it is possible to go about daily life while covering your face with a hat and mask.
(However, since you cannot wash your hair by yourself, it is safer to have it washed at a hair salon.)

At the 1-week mark,
the tape, splint, and stitches are removed,
so please visit us then.
At Cocoline,
we always prioritize safe and beautiful surgery.
