I have so much more dead skin and sebum after surgery. Can I use a nose pack or scrub?
Hello, this is Cocoline.
How is everyone doing in this severe cold weather?
We started Saturday consultations while drinking warm tea in the chilly wind.
First, I’m sure many of you are still worried about the ongoing COVID situation. Fortunately, Cocoline is a hospital where no confirmed cases have visited even once since the outbreak began.
We also carry out daily disinfection and infection control.
Please feel free to visit without concern.

Now, let’s talk about the nose packs or scrubs I mentioned earlier after rhinoplasty.
After surgery, you will need to wear a splint for at least 7 to 10 days, so proper face washing will be difficult. As a result, sebum tends to build up around the surgical area, and dead skin will also form more easily.
After the splint and stitches are removed, you can wash your face with water, so some of it can be removed, but you may still be very concerned about the white sebum that appears.
That is why we often receive many inquiries after surgery asking whether sebum removal is allowed.
To give the conclusion first, we do not recommend using products that may irritate the skin, such as cleansing oil, scrubs, or nose packs, for at least one month after surgery.
The reasons are as follows.

- Skin condition after surgery
To perform nose surgery, the skin is opened. During the recovery stage, as the skin returns to its normal position and heals, the skin condition itself can become sensitive, so even products you used before may sting or cause problems after use.
It may be frustrating, but please use cleansing oil, nose packs, peeling gels, scrubs, and other dead-skin and sebum care products only after at least one month has passed!
Please use them only after the skin has sufficiently recovered and stabilized.
Today, I briefly explained the use of sebum and dead-skin products after surgery.
If you leave any questions, I’ll prepare another column next time.
Rhinoplasty is not a simple procedure. Because it is a surgery you need to think about even 5 or 10 years after it is completed, we hope you will choose your hospital more carefully.
This has been Cocoline. Thank you.
