Implant surgery process used like a natural tooth

Step 1: Diagnosis after pre-surgery examination

An implant is not simply “placing” a tooth.

It is a delicate process of making a tooth live in harmony with your body.

That is why the process always begins with a thorough examination.

✔️ Is there enough bone?

✔️ Are we avoiding the nerves?

✔️ Is the space around the neighboring teeth safe?

We check everything, from CT and panoramic X-rays to periodontal condition.

And one important thing!

If you have a systemic condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or osteoporosis, please be sure to let us know.

If you just think, “It’ll probably be fine,” that can be risky. If you tell us about any medications you are taking in advance, we can neatly prepare the surgery schedule and any medication adjustments as well.

Step 2: First surgery – placement of the artificial tooth root

Finally, the main surgery begins!

The “surgery” here refers to the step in which the artificial tooth root (fixture) is placed into the jawbone.

It is not as painful as you might think, because it is performed under local anesthesia.

According to the preplanned treatment plan, the angle, position, and depth are precisely adjusted as the artificial tooth root is placed.

Usually, a cap called a “cover screw” is placed over the implant, and the gum is closed over it with stitches.

However, if the bone is strong, a “healing abutment” can be connected depending on the case.

The healing abutment is a helper that shapes the gum so the prosthetic can later be placed nicely.

And using this can sometimes eliminate the need for a second surgery, making the treatment simpler, right?

Once the first surgery is done, it’s time to wait!

This is the period for osseointegration, meaning the time when the artificial tooth root and bone firmly unite.

For the lower jaw, it takes about 3 to 4 months, and for the upper jaw, about 5 to 6 months.

Step 3: Second surgery – connecting the abutment

Once we confirm that the bone and implant have fused well,

it is time to connect the abutment.

The abutment is like a bridge connecting the artificial tooth root and the prosthetic crown.

In other words, it is the pillar that creates a place for the tooth to be placed.

During this step, the gum is gently opened, the temporary healing abutment is removed, and the final abutment is connected.

Step 4: Impression taking & crown placement

Now it is time to make the visible tooth, the crown.

This is finally the moment when the prosthetic’s form takes shape!

A precise impression is taken while considering the patient’s gum shape, bite, and the condition of the opposing teeth.

Based on that, the prosthetic is made from materials such as zirconia or PFM.

Then it is placed onto the abutment.^^

This is finally the moment when the implant that feels like my own tooth is completed.

Step 5: Bite adjustment & regular checkups

If that’s what you thought, there is still one more thing left.

That is bite adjustment and regular checkups!

Whether the prosthetic fits well, whether it puts stress on other teeth, whether there is any discomfort while chewing...

You must check these things! Only then is the implant truly complete and able to be used for a long time like your own tooth.

And regular checkups!

It does not end once it is placed; consistent checkups are needed to keep it healthy.
