Hello, this is Dia Dental Clinic at Magaok Station.
The June sunlight is gradually growing stronger.
During the day, it already feels very summer-like, and in the morning and evening there is still a slight hint of spring,
so the weather is awkwardly changing, and you may find yourself repeatedly throwing the blanket off and pulling it back on.
In weather like this, both your body and your mouth can become more sensitive.
So if you are about to have a wisdom tooth extracted,
or if you have just finished one, don’t forget that this is the time when recovery care needs even more attention.
Today, we’re continuing with another post about wisdom teeth.
Last time, we looked step by step at the [wisdom tooth extraction process].
If you haven’t seen it yet, please check the link below first!
So this time, after you’ve ‘had the wisdom tooth pulled properly’!
In other words, we’ll point out 10 must-know precautions after wisdom tooth extraction, based on Dia Dental Clinic’s own know-how.
Now, shall we go through them one by one and start with the key tips that will help your recovery after wisdom tooth extraction?
10 Important Precautions to Know After Wisdom Tooth Extraction
- Keep the gauze in your mouth for at least 2 hours

Macheong Station Dental Clinic_Keeping gauze in place
The first step to preventing bleeding is pressure hemostasis.
The gauze placed over the extraction site at the clinic should be pressed firmly for at least 2 hours so that the bleeding stops properly.
If the bleeding continues, it can also help to keep pressing for about 1 more hour.
- Say goodbye to straws for now—be careful with pressure in your mouth!

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_Do not use straws
Spitting, using a straw, rinsing your mouth vigorously, smoking...
All of these increase pressure in the mouth and can cause bleeding.
Please avoid them, as the bleeding may start again or the clot may come off.
- Eat after the anesthesia wears off

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_Soft food intake
What happens if you rush to eat while you still can’t feel anything?
Your mouth will be in trouble. You may bite your tongue, bite your cheek, and bleed.
So after the anesthesia has completely worn off, start with soft foods like porridge or soup.
Also, for 7 to 10 days, please avoid chewy foods and hot broth.
- Brush gently, and keep up with oral rinsing carefully

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_Soft toothbrush
The area where the wisdom tooth was removed is still very sensitive.
So if you brush carelessly, you may cause bleeding.
First, instead of a toothbrush on the extraction site, carefully rinse with an oral antiseptic solution.
Not a quick “swish-swish,” but a really gentle rinse—you know what I mean, right?
Brush the other teeth as usual, but we recommend a soft toothbrush so you don’t scrape the gums.
And don’t forget to use dental floss and interdental brushes!
Even after the stitches are removed, don’t let your guard down.
The area where food always seems to get stuck for no reason—that is the extraction site.
But don’t try to force a toothpick or toothbrush into it in a hurry.
- Use a cold compress for about 48 hours

For the first two days, a cold compress is effective for reducing swelling and pain.
To prevent frostbite, 10 minutes of cold compress and 10 minutes of rest is enough.
- Take a break from hot saunas and intense exercise

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_Avoid strenuous exercise
If blood flow increases, bleeding may start again.
So it is better to delay warm baths or exercise for about a week.
A light shower is fine, but please avoid strenuous movement.
- No alcohol or smoking! They delay recovery

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_No smoking, no drinking
Smoking interferes with blood circulation, and drinking can cause inflammation.
If you want the extraction site to heal quickly, then during recovery, the correct answer is to stop smoking and drinking.
- Take your medication exactly as prescribed until the end!

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_Taking medication
Painkillers are not just for when it hurts; you must take them to help prevent inflammation.
Please do not forget to take the prescribed medicine all the way to the last pill.
- Do not touch it with your hand, tongue, or a toothbrush

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_No stimulation
You may keep touching it because you wonder, “Is it okay?”
But the stitches may come loose, and inflammation may develop.
You need to resist. If you are really curious, contact the clinic! Please!!^^
- Do not touch the blood clot

Magaok Station Dental Clinic_Dry socket
The blood clot is the natural protective layer over the extraction site.
If it comes off, inflammation called “dry socket” can develop, leading to severe pain, bad breath, fever, and more.
So if, even 3 to 5 days after the extraction, your face is still very swollen,
or if you suddenly develop severe pain, bad breath, or a fever,
there is a possibility of dry socket, so please visit the clinic right away without delay!
After wisdom tooth extraction, just remember these 10 things!
- Keep the gauze in place for at least 2 hours
- No pressure-related actions such as using straws, smoking, or spitting
- After the anesthesia wears off, start with soft foods
- Brush carefully and rinse as well
- Keep cold compresses to within 48 hours
- Postpone hot baths and exercise for the time being
- Absolutely avoid alcohol and smoking
- Take the medication to the end
- Do not touch it with your hands, tongue, toothbrush, etc.
