Hello.
Maggok Station Exit 3, a dental clinic that is sincere about the details
This is Seoul Dia Dental Clinic.
Last time, we talked about the care instructions after crown prosthetic treatment,
which is the restoration usually placed after root canal treatment is finished.
Many of you may have thought, “So it’s not over just because it’s been crowned~”
If you missed it, you can review it lightly through the link below.
[Go to Part 3: Helpful tips for long-lasting care after crown prosthetic treatment]
But here’s the thing...
Today, I’d like to talk about something even more important.
That is, the problems that occur when root canal treatment is “interrupted.”
We often hear this in the clinic as well.
“Doctor, it doesn’t hurt anymore now... so I don’t need to keep going, right?”
Or, “I’m short on time, so I’ll come back next time~” and then they don’t return.
But root canal treatment is absolutely not something you should stop halfway through.
Really, truly, let me emphasize it one more time.
If you stop in the middle... it becomes a bigger problem.
So today, I’ll clearly organize the reasons
in the Seoul Dia Dental Clinic style.
Let’s keep the mood light, but go deep on the content!!
What happens if root canal treatment is stopped midway?
- The bacteria party starts again, and inflammation returns

Maggok Station Dental Clinic_ Recurrence of inflammation inside the root canal
Inside a tooth that has been temporarily covered,
a perfect environment is created for bacteria to throw a party and have fun.
That’s because, as the name suggests, temporary materials are temporary and can come off easily.
If food, saliva, and bacteria slip in through those gaps?
The inner root canal becomes a direct highway for bacteria.
Even if it looks covered with a temporary filling on the outside,
a bacteria colony may already have formed inside and inflammation may be progressing.
Once it becomes contaminated, it is difficult to make it clean again,
and the infection may spread deeper.
In the end, if you stop treatment midway and then restart,
it becomes twice as difficult and takes twice as long.
- Even without nerves, the tooth can break.

A tooth from which the nerve has been removed becomes a hollow structure inside.
It is similar to a nicely wrapped piece of wood.
Now that it doesn’t hurt, you may wonder whether treatment is really necessary.
That’s what makes it even more dangerous.
Because you can’t feel it, you won’t notice if it breaks.
If it cracks with a “pop!” while chewing hard food...
Can it be restored? It’s difficult. No, it’s not possible.
In the end, you may end up moving straight to extraction and then an implant.
Thinking, “It’ll probably be fine if I just leave it,”
can waste both time and money,
so you should never stop root canal treatment halfway through.
- It looks fine on the outside, but rots on the inside.

Maggok Station Dental Clinic_ Pus caused by interruption of root canal treatment
If the outer surface of the tooth seems unchanged,
but the inside is decaying from bacteria?
Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t serious.
The inside becomes hollow, the infection progresses quietly,
and suddenly the face may swell or pus may build up.
At that point, treatment may have to be started all over again,
or it may already be too late and extraction may be the only answer.
A path that gets closer to “stopping treatment = giving up on the tooth”

Maggok Station Dental Clinic_ Root canal treatment process
Once a root canal has been opened for treatment,
it can only be used long-term if it is sealed thoroughly.
But if that space becomes contaminated with bacteria because treatment is interrupted,
it can turn into a source of infection and cause problems in the gums, surrounding bone, adjacent teeth, and even the temporomandibular joint.
In other words, if root canal treatment is stopped in the middle?
It gets infected again, hurts again, costs money again,
and in the end you either have to start over or it becomes impossible to fix at all.
To summarize today’s post!
Root canal treatment only has meaning when you complete it to the end.
If it is interrupted, the inside of the tooth becomes contaminated and recovery becomes difficult,
leading to bigger problems such as inflammation, pain, and breakage.
Only after the treatment is finished and the crown is completed can it truly be considered a “complete restoration.”
Seoul Dia Dental Clinic
manages each patient’s treatment schedule and plan in a customized way.
So that you don’t miss appointments during root canal treatment,
we carefully handle text notifications, phone reminders, and a recall system.
“Ah... I’m busy this week...”
“I’ll just do it all at once next time~”
These kinds of thoughts put your teeth at risk!
