Hello,
This is Seoul Dia Dental Clinic at Mokgok Station, promising honest and meticulous treatment.
In the last post, do you remember the story we introduced about
[the resin treatment process for molar cavities]?
We explained everything one by one, from “why resin is filled in layers”
to “what steps are involved in the treatment process.”
If you missed it, feel free to take a quick look through the link below
so today’s content will make much more sense.^^
Let’s get started with today’s topic in earnest.
Why is aftercare after resin treatment important?
Resin has many advantages: it looks natural,
spares as much of the tooth as possible,
and can be used for both front teeth and molars.
But treatment finishing does not mean everything is completely solved.
Because of the nature of the material, resin can gradually wear down or discolor over time,
and if care is lacking, its lifespan becomes shorter more easily.
On the other hand, with proper care alone, it can remain reliable for years.
In other words, the equation of care = resin lifespan holds true.
So today, we’ll break down post-treatment care into three stages:
“right after the procedure – daily care – long-term care”
and explain it in a simple and clear way lol.
Let’s begin right away!!
Tips for making resin last longer after treatment, explained by stage
Stage 1: Right after treatment (procedure day ~ 1 day)

Precautions After Resin Treatment] image 1](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/rlg13v0fli/naver_blog/dia_dental/assets/by_hash/598235e261796ab0f999884e2ec72b644aaca26a273907bacdf24704638a0d35.png)
Mokgok Station Dental Clinic_Restrict hard foods
Even though the treatment is over, you should not eat as you normally would right away.
In particular, for about a day immediately after the procedure,
avoid hard foods such as dried squid, beef jerky, dried cuttlefish, walnuts, peanuts, and ice,
as well as sticky foods like caramel, gum, taffy, and glutinous rice cake.
Resin is hardened with light,
but if strong force or sticky food is applied while it is still settling,
it may crack or come off.
So, with the mindset of “giving your teeth a day off after the procedure,”
it is better to eat mainly soft foods.
Another important point is when the anesthesia has not fully worn off.
Because your senses are dull, people often accidentally bite their cheek or tongue while chewing.
Usually, the anesthesia wears off in about 2 to 3 hours,
so it is safer to delay eating for a while during that time.
Stage 2: Daily care (1 week to 3 months after treatment)
- Brushing habits

Mokgok Station Dental Clinic_Floss use
At first glance, resin looks almost the same as natural teeth.
But if food sticks to it or staining begins, it can become noticeable quickly.
So you should brush gently, but thoroughly.
Use a toothbrush with bristles that are not too hard,
and use dental floss or interdental brushes to clean around the resin as well.
Using an electric toothbrush or oral irrigator is also good, but avoid excessive pressure.
- Food management

Strongly colored foods and drinks such as coffee, black tea, and wine can cause staining.
That does not mean you must cut them out completely.
Simply rinsing with water right after eating them can greatly reduce color changes.
- Check for sensitivity and discomfort

For a few days after treatment, you may feel a slight sensitivity or awkwardness when chewing.
It usually disappears within 1 to 2 weeks,
but if symptoms continue for a long time, bite adjustment may be needed.
In that case, it is better to visit the dental clinic right away.
Stage 3: Long-term care (6 months to several years after treatment)
- Regular checkups

Over time, resin may gradually wear down or develop small gaps.
A regular checkup once every 6 months to 1 year helps detect problems early.
- Replacement timing

Mokgok Station Dental Clinic_Resin fracture
If the resin comes off or becomes severely discolored, replacement is necessary.
Even minor discoloration should not be left untreated, because bacteria can enter through the gap and cavities may recur.
Do not think, “It’s a little uncomfortable, but it’s probably fine.”
It is safer to have even small abnormalities checked right away.

Mokgok Station Dental Clinic_Rinsing the mouth
Reduce habits like biting dried squid, taffy, or ice
Rinse with water after eating staining foods
Do not chew hard foods only on one side; use both sides evenly
If you practice just these three things, the lifespan of the resin will become much longer.
To summarize the precautions after resin treatment:
- Right after treatment
- Daily care
- Long-term care
