Hello.
Honest care, easy-to-understand explanations!
We are Seoul Dia Dental Clinic in Magok-dong, where smiles come to mind before worries do.
At times like this, when the temperature difference between day and night is large and fatigue builds up,
many people find that their mouths become more sensitive as well when they feel chilled, right?
But one day, if your gums suddenly swell,
and when pressed it feels like something might pop out,
many people ask, “If I pop it, won’t it get better?”
But,
that pus should absolutely not be squeezed out casually!
Even if the pus on the surface comes out for a moment,
the inflammation left inside can spread as it is, making the pain worse
and leading to a vicious cycle of swollen gums.
So in the previous post [Part 2: Symptoms of a Gum Abscess Pouch],
we explained in detail the signals that appear when pus has built up.
If you haven’t seen it yet, it will be much easier to understand if you first check the link below.
Now, today we’ll talk about treatment in earnest.
A gum abscess pouch (gingival abscess) is not something that can simply be resolved by squeezing out the pus.
From identifying the cause, to drainage, root treatment, and recurrence prevention management,
it needs to be carried out accurately step by step to get as close to a full recovery as possible.
From now on, in the Dia Dental Clinic style—more certain than searching and easy to understand at a glance—
I’ll organize the treatment process one step at a time.
Step-by-Step Treatment for a Gum Abscess Pouch
- An accurate diagnosis is the first step

The cause of gum pus differs from person to person.
On the surface, it may look like simple gum inflammation,
but in reality, various causes such as nerve inflammation, periapical abscess, and periodontitis may be hidden underneath.
That is why the first step in treatment is to identify the exact cause.
Using X-rays or 3D CT scans, we check the location and depth of the inflammation
to distinguish whether it started in the gums or is an infection inside the tooth.
The treatment method changes depending on these results.
In other words, if you only take medicine or apply something without knowing the cause,
it may calm down for a while, but the pus will build up again.
- Reducing inflammation and drainage (pus discharge)

Maguok-dong Dental Clinic_Drainage
When pus accumulates inside the gums, the pressure becomes severe and the pain increases.
In such cases, after local anesthesia, a drainage procedure to remove the pus is necessary.
If drainage is not performed,
the inflammation can spread to the surrounding jawbone or adjacent teeth.
After drainage, anti-inflammatory medication and antibiotics are used together
to calm the inflammation.
But this is not the end.
Drainage is only “emergency care,”
and the real treatment is addressing why the fire started in the first place.
- Root treatment according to the cause

Maguok-dong Dental Clinic_Root canal treatment
The root cause of a gum abscess pouch is usually an infection.
Removing only the pus won’t solve the problem.
At Dia Dental Clinic, we take a different approach depending on the cause.
· Nerve infection
- Root canal treatment to remove the infected nerve and disinfect the area
· Gum inflammation
- Deep tartar removal and, if necessary, gum incision and irrigation
· Inflammation at the root tip
- Apicoectomy to remove the inflamed area
Although the treatment process may look simple,
in fact, it requires considering the depth and location of the inflammation, as well as lifestyle habits.
Seoul Dia Dental Clinic provides customized treatment that minimizes pain and recurrence,
without unnecessary incisions.
- Post-treatment care

“Now that the pus is out, I guess I’m fine~”
We hear this all the time.
But if post-treatment care is not done properly,
bacteria can start acting up again at any time.
Tilt the bristles at a 45-degree angle and gently brush along the gum line
Using a water flosser and interdental brush is also helpful.
- Regular checkups are essential
A follow-up examination within 3 to 6 months after treatment is necessary.
Even if it isn’t visible, inflammation can return inside the gums.
Smoking, stress, and lack of sleep weaken gum immunity.
Remember that when the body is tired, the gums become weaker too.
To summarize,
treatment for a gum abscess pouch proceeds in four steps:
-
Accurate diagnosis
-
Pus drainage
-
Treating the cause
-
Recurrence prevention care
In other words, the real treatment is addressing the internal cause, not just the surface pus!
That is today’s key point.
