Hello.
We practice honestly, and explain things simply!
This is Seoul Dia Dental Clinic in Magok-dong, where smiles come to mind before worries.
These days, with the flu going around, you hear people everywhere on the news and around you saying,
“Make sure to get your vaccination without delay~”
But there are always people like this.
“I’ll get it in a little while… I’m fine for now.”
And then a few days later, after getting a fever and coughing, they say, “I should have gotten it then…”
In fact, teeth are exactly the same.
“The right thing to do now is the most dangerous thing to ignore.”
At times like this, the treatment you need is the “apicoectomy” introduced last time,
which removes only the inflammation at the root tip without extracting the tooth.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check the link below first,
and today’s content will be much easier to understand.
“I’m fine right now, so I’ll do it later.”
“The pus will probably settle down a bit and then I’ll be okay.”
“Surgeries are scary, so I’ll try to hold out with medication.”
I completely understand how you feel.
Who would want to do an apicoectomy if they could avoid it?
And just hearing the word “surgery” makes you tense for no reason.
But the truth is simple.
Apical inflammation may look quiet on the outside right now,
but inside, the inflammation is steadily growing.
So today, let’s talk about that a little more realistically,
and a little more clearly.
Before “I’ll do it later” turns into “I should have done it then...,”
I’ll explain why it needs to be done now, in the Dia Dental style.
Inflammation never disappears on its own.

Magok-dong Dental Clinic_Root inflammation in the tooth
Inflammation at the apical area (the tip of the tooth root)
occurs because bacteria remaining inside the tooth continue to be active.
In other words, as long as there is a “place where bacteria remain,”
the body has to keep fighting, and as a result, the inflammation repeats.
Sometimes people say, “It seemed to calm down a bit after I took medicine?”
That’s true. Medication can temporarily soothe it.
But as long as the bacteria’s “residence” remains,
it is only a matter of time before it flares up again.
If the inflammation spreads, the surrounding bone is also damaged.

Magok-dong Dental Clinic_Gum pus pocket
Root-tip inflammation is not just a tooth problem.
It begins to dissolve the surrounding alveolar bone (gum bone) as well.
By this stage, the gums swell, pain appears when pressed,
or pus builds up inside the gums and rises like a “pimple.”
At that point, patients’ comments are almost always similar.
“It felt better after the pus burst.”
But in fact, the pus did not disappear—it found a pathway.
It means a route for the bacteria to escape outward has formed.
If this is left untreated, the gums and bone continue to be damaged,
and eventually the foundation supporting the tooth disappears.
The surrounding roots, adjacent teeth, and gum bone are also damaged.

Apical inflammation is not an isolated problem.
Especially when the inflammation is deep or has been left untreated for a long time,
it affects the surrounding roots, adjacent teeth, and gum bone as well.
In the end, what starts as a problem with one tooth
can lead to the loss of two or three teeth.
In the end, it leads to extraction.

Magok-dong Dental Clinic_Extraction
Even if it was a small inflammation at first,
if the root tip remains infected, the tooth’s lifeline (the periodontal ligament) is damaged.
At this stage, neither root canal treatment, medication, nor cleaning will help.
In the end, extraction (tooth removal) becomes the only option.
What’s important here is
that apicoectomy is the last chance right before extraction.
At Seoul Dia Dental Clinic, with the mindset of “let’s try everything we can before removing the tooth,”
we provide treatment that preserves natural teeth through apicoectomy.
Delaying increases time and cost too

Magok-dong Dental Clinic_Dental treatment costs
“The earlier you treat it, the less it costs” — that’s true.
If you delay apicoectomy,
the inflammation grows and a wider area has to be operated on,
which means recovery takes longer as well.
And if extraction ultimately becomes necessary, additional treatments such as implants
and bone grafting can make the cost and treatment period several times greater.
Let’s summarize today’s post again!
-
Apical inflammation does not heal on its own
-
If left untreated, it can cause bone damage and infection of adjacent teeth
-
It can eventually lead to extraction
-
Delaying increases cost, time, and pain
In the end, the key is timing.
Just as a flu vaccination works only when it is given on time,
apicoectomy also has a different outcome if the timing is missed.
