Hello.
Honest treatment, easy-to-understand explanations!
This is Magok Station Seoul Dia Dental Clinic, where smiles come to mind before worries.

This is already the final story in the apicoectomy series.
In the last post, [3. Problems Caused by Delaying Apicoectomy],
we honestly talked about the risks of leaving inflammation untreated with the words,
“You thought it would be fine if you just left it alone, right?”
If you missed it, it will be much easier to understand if you read the link below first.
Now it’s the end.
Getting an apicoectomy done well is important, but
the real key is how you care for it afterward.
Today, from post-surgery care tips to habits that help prevent recurrence,
we’ll organize everything clearly and simply in Dia Dental Clinic’s style.
Care After Apicoectomy and How to Prevent Recurrence
- The day of surgery
“You absolutely need to rest today!”

Maggok-dong dentist_quite enough rest
You can return to daily life right after the procedure,
but there is still a “wound in the healing process” inside your mouth.
That’s why Dia Dental Clinic gives the following guidance.
① Avoid hot or hard foods!
(Hot soup, ramen, pork belly, nuts, and similar foods can irritate the inflamed area.)
② Brush gently, and slightly avoid the surgical area.
If the toothbrush touches it directly, bleeding may occur.
③ Ice packs are a must!
Within 6 to 8 hours after surgery, cold compresses are best for reducing swelling.
④ No alcohol, and absolutely no smoking!
They interfere with blood flow and slow down recovery.
In short,
“Don’t eat, don’t brush too hard, and keep it cold!”
Following just these three things already means you’re halfway there.
- 1 to 3 days after surgery
“Swelling may increase. Don’t panic.”

Maggok-dong dentist_swelling after procedure
About two days after apicoectomy,
many people say things like, “Oh, my gums are a bit swollen,” or “It feels slightly sore when I press on it.”
That’s okay.
This is a normal part of tissue recovery.
It means your body is sending white blood cells to repair the wound.
In other words, it is evidence that “my gums are healing on their own.”
At this stage, please take care of it like this.
① Use cold compresses only for up to 24 hours, then switch to lukewarm compresses
② Never skip the prescribed medication and take it until the end
③ Do not rinse your mouth forcefully (the bacterial film may grow back)
Usually, after 3 to 5 days, the swelling goes down,
and when the stitches are removed after a week, most people say, “It’s better than I expected~”
- After the recovery period
“It may look fine on the outside, but it’s still sensitive inside.”

Even if the surgical area has healed,
it takes time for the tissue around the root tip to fully regenerate.
So for 2 to 3 weeks, please be sure to follow these three points.
① Chew only on one side (the side that did not undergo surgery)
② Keep hard foods to a minimum and focus on soft foods
③ After brushing, gently clean with a water flosser or interdental brush
If you become too relaxed too early just because it seems fine,
microscopic bacteria can enter through the gaps again.
Carefully managing it until the very end is what truly completes the treatment.
Three key rules to prevent recurrence
The biggest reason inflammation comes back is
that the environment bacteria like has been left unchecked.
If you avoid just these three things, the chance of recurrence drops significantly.
- Improve brushing habits

Care After Apicoectomy and How to Prevent Recurrence] image 4](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/rlg13v0fli/naver_blog/dia_dental/assets/by_hash/0d5fc8b2f4bfe3833204a84e5f3063f68e1b07371d702ef457e36cadee6db2d2.png)
Maggok-dong dentist_proper brushing method
Angle the bristles at 45 degrees and gently brush along the gumline and the border between the teeth!
Brushing too hard is absolutely not allowed.
- Minimize smoking and drinking
![Maggok-dong Dentist_“So It Won’t Hurt Again, This Time We’ll Do It Right!” [4. Care After Apicoectomy and How to Prevent Recurrence] image 5](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/rlg13v0fli/naver_blog/dia_dental/assets/by_hash/d45ba562464ad7c764726056ac2187df9974528227250e05157e1d688eb5e6ca.png)
Nicotine and alcohol cause blood vessels to constrict,
slowing gum recovery to less than half its usual speed.
In other words, during recovery, “one drink should be fine~” is absolutely a no!
- Regular checkups are essential

Maggok-dong dentist_regular checkup
The surgical area needs X-ray follow-up every 3 to 6 months.
That’s because even if it looks fine to the eye, inflammation may still remain inside.
Shall we summarize what we learned today?
-
Right after surgery, keep it cold; after 3 days, switch to warm care
-
Take your medication until the end without skipping
-
Do not brush too hard; manage it gently
-
Catch recurring inflammation early with regular checkups
