Hello.
3 minutes on foot from Exit 3 of Magok Station,
We are Seoul Dia Dental Clinic,
which does not overlook even small changes in the mouth.
In the previous post,
we first talked about what pulpitis is.
To summarize very simply:
Pulpitis is
an inflammation of the nerve inside a tooth.
The most common cause is cavities,
and it can also occur for various reasons,
such as a crack in the tooth,
trauma,
or bacteria entering through a gap in a restoration.
If you have not seen Part 1 yet,
it may be a good idea to read the post below first.
Many people think of pulpitis pain like this.
"If it’s pulpitis, isn’t it supposed to hurt a lot?"
Yes, that’s right.
It can definitely be painful.
But here is
one unexpected fact.
Symptoms of pulpitis
can appear in more varied ways than you might think.
Some people are startled by a sharp pain
as soon as cold water touches the tooth,
while others lose sleep because the pain gets worse at night.
But some people also say,
"It’s not exactly painful... it just keeps bothering me."
So rather than explaining pulpitis simply as [a severe toothache],
it is better to understand it as a condition that can appear in
several different symptom patterns.
There are also two pain patterns in pulpitis

Magok-dong Dental Clinic_Acute, Chronic
There is one thing here
that would be good to know.
Broadly speaking, pulpitis
can be divided into acute and chronic.
To explain it a bit more simply,
acute means that the inflammatory reaction
in the tooth’s nerve tissue
appears quickly and strongly.
So the pain also tends to appear
relatively strongly and suddenly.
On the other hand, chronic means that the inflammation progresses slowly.
So rather than pain suddenly flaring up,
it often starts as a vague, bothersome feeling.
Even though it is the same pulpitis,
the pain can look quite different
depending on whether it is acute or chronic.
Acute pulpitis
– When the pain is relatively strong

Magok-dong Dental Clinic_Severe toothache
First, let’s talk about acute pulpitis.
In this case, the pain is relatively
strong in many cases.
What does it feel like?
-
Sharp pain when drinking cold water
-
Throbbing pain with hot food
-
Toothache felt even when staying still
-
Pain that gets worse at night
These symptoms are not just simple sensitivity;
they may be a sign that the nerve tissue inside the tooth
is being strongly stimulated.
So if this pain keeps happening,
it is better not to just think,
"It’ll pass in a little while..."
and instead check the condition of the nerve inside the tooth.
Chronic pulpitis
– When the pain appears vaguely

On the other hand, chronic pulpitis
appears a little differently.
Rather than very intense pain,
it often starts as a vague, bothersome feeling.
For example,
-
A feeling that a specific tooth keeps bothering you
-
A slight discomfort when chewing food
-
A feeling that food gets stuck often
-
Pain that is sometimes dull and hard to define
It feels a bit vague to call it pain.
"This 정도 should be fine..."
"Maybe I’m just tired..."
and many people simply let it pass.
But even if the pain is not severe,
changes may be progressing in the nerve tissue inside the tooth.
So if a feeling that is different from usual
keeps happening repeatedly, it may help to
check the condition of the tooth.
Let’s briefly summarize the symptoms of pulpitis.
[Acute pulpitis]
[Chronic pulpitis]
-
Feels awkward when chewing rather than painful
-
A specific tooth keeps bothering you
-
A feeling that food gets stuck often
In other words, pulpitis pain
can appear strongly
or as a vague discomfort.
So if a feeling that is different from usual
keeps happening repeatedly,
it is a good idea to check the condition inside your mouth.
