Hello.
We are Seoul Dia Dental Clinic,
providing proper treatment guidance
at Magok Station.
This is finally the sixth and last installment of our snoring series!
In the previous five installments,
we discussed what dental oral appliances for snoring are
and how they work.
Today is the final installment.
“ So, is it right for me too?”
In fact, this is the most important question.
No matter how good a device is, it is of no use if it does not suit you.
On the other hand, if it fits your situation perfectly,
you may be able to use it much more comfortably than expected.
Today, Dia Dental Clinic will clearly explain the cases in which an oral appliance is especially suitable,
as well as the cases that require careful consideration.^^
Snoring Oral Appliances Are Especially Suitable for These People

Magok Station Dental Clinic_If You Frequently Travel for Business or Leisure
- People who snore but have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea
People who do not have sleep apnea but have difficulty because of snoring,
both for themselves and for those sleeping nearby.
Using a snoring oral appliance at this stage
can reduce snoring and also help prevent it from progressing to sleep apnea.
As we mentioned in Part 3,
managing snoring at this stage
is the simplest and most effective approach.
- People with mild to moderate sleep apnea
Even if you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea,
if it is mild to moderate, a snoring oral appliance
can be an effective treatment option.
In some cases, a sleep specialist and a dentist
work together to determine the treatment direction.
- People who gave up because a positive airway pressure device was uncomfortable
Some people are prescribed a positive airway pressure device,
but find wearing the mask too uncomfortable,
are unable to sleep because of the machine noise,
or simply cannot adjust to it.
In such cases, a snoring oral appliance can be a practical alternative.
In fact, quite a few people switch from a positive airway pressure device to an oral appliance.
- People who frequently travel for business or leisure
Since a positive airway pressure device requires you to carry both the machine and the mask,
you need an extra piece of luggage for travel. Haha.
An oral appliance only requires a case.
You can use it comfortably anywhere.
- People whose lower jaw is structurally set back
As we mentioned in Part 2,
when the lower jaw is set back,
the airway is more likely to be structurally narrow.
In such cases, pulling the lower jaw forward
with a snoring oral appliance can be especially effective.
- People who feel uncomfortable with surgery
For people who feel burdened by surgical treatments
such as tonsil removal or jawbone correction,
trying an oral appliance first is a much more practical choice.
It is generally recommended to try a noninvasive method first,
and if the effect is still insufficient,
consider other methods at that point.
Cases That Require Careful Consideration

Magok Station Dental Clinic_Jaw Joint Pain
- People with severe sleep apnea
If you have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea,
an oral appliance alone may not be sufficient.
It is safer to first consult a sleep specialist
or use it in combination with a positive airway pressure device.
A snoring oral appliance may serve a supportive role,
but it has limitations when used alone in severe cases.
- People with severe jaw joint pain
An oral appliance works by pulling the lower jaw forward,
which may place stress on the jaw joint.
If you normally experience jaw joint pain or hear sounds
when opening your mouth, you should first check the condition of your jaw joint
before deciding whether to use the appliance.
- People who are missing many teeth
An oral appliance is secured by fitting over the teeth,
so there must be enough teeth to support it.
If many teeth are missing,
it may be difficult to secure the appliance or its effectiveness may be reduced.
- People whose snoring is not caused by the jaw
If snoring is caused by a structural nasal problem,
such as a deviated nasal septum or nasal polyps,
it is difficult to resolve it with an oral appliance alone.
Identifying the exact cause comes first.
Snoring Oral Appliances: This Is How You Get Started
Oral appliance treatment proceeds in the following order.

Magok Station Dental Clinic_Consultation
Step 1 - Consultation and oral examination
We check your current level of snoring, jaw structure, dental condition, and jaw joint condition. This is the stage at which we determine whether an oral appliance is suitable for you.
Step 2 - Taking dental impressions
We take precise impressions customized to the shape of your teeth.
Step 3 - Making and fitting the appliance
We try on the custom-made appliance and check its position and feel.
Step 4 - Adjustment and adaptation
We gradually adjust the degree to which the lower jaw is brought forward to find the optimal position. Most people adapt within 2–4 weeks.
Step 5 - Regular checkups
We periodically check the condition of the appliance and changes in the jaw structure.
In the end, there is one key point.
Whether a snoring oral appliance is right for you or not—
it is difficult to determine on your own.
Only after checking the cause of your snoring, your jaw structure, and the severity of any sleep apnea
can we accurately determine whether an oral appliance will be helpful.
Dia Dental Clinic has both types of snoring oral appliances.
One type is worn separately on the upper and lower teeth, while the other is connected and pulls the lower jaw forward.
Which appliance is more suitable for you may vary depending on your jaw structure and the severity of your snoring.
Seeing the appliances in person, listening to an explanation, and finding the one that suits your situation—
the first step is a consultation.
If you are concerned about snoring, please feel free to contact us through Naver TalkTalk or make a reservation.
