Hello.
We are Seoul Dia Dental Clinic,
providing appropriate treatment guidance
at Magok Station.
In the previous four posts, we explored
the veneer treatment process
from beginning to end.
Today, we will cover the question
that concerns those considering treatment
most realistically.
"How long do veneers last once they are placed?"
"Will they come off quickly if I do not take proper care of them?"
Since this is not an inexpensive treatment,
many people wonder how long veneers last
and how they should be maintained
to use them for as long as possible.
Today, Seoul Dia Dental Clinic will give you
a realistic overview of veneer longevity. ^-^

How long do veneers last on average?
The average lifespan of veneers
is generally known to be around 10–20 years.
Of course, this is an average.
Some veneers last for more than 20 years
with proper care, while others may need to be replaced earlier
depending on inadequate care or lifestyle habits.
Ultimately, two things determine their lifespan:
how well they are made and how well they are maintained.
Factors that affect lifespan

Magok veneers_material
1. Material
Ceramic veneers have high strength
and are highly resistant to discoloration, giving them a long lifespan.
Composite resin veneers are less expensive than ceramic veneers,
but they may discolor over time and have lower strength,
so their lifespan is relatively shorter.
The choice of material is the first factor in determining lifespan.
2. Quality of fabrication
Even when high-quality materials are used,
if the veneers are not fabricated precisely,
the bonding strength may decrease and their lifespan may be shortened.
How accurately the teeth and veneers fit together,
and how naturally they meet the gum line—
this precision is a key factor that determines lifespan.
3. Occlusion
Occlusion, or the way the upper and lower teeth come together,
has a greater impact on veneer lifespan than you might expect.
If veneers are simply bonded without considering occlusion,
unnecessary force is applied to them every time you chew.
As that force accumulates,
it can cause the veneers to chip, break, or come off.
That is why careful occlusal adjustment
is important during the final stage of treatment.
4. Lifestyle habits
If you frequently eat hard foods,
grin[d] your teeth, or bite your nails,
the risk of cracks or fractures in the veneers increases.
A single habit can significantly change their lifespan.
5. Maintenance methods
Brushing too forcefully
or using toothpaste with highly abrasive ingredients
may wear down the surface of the veneers.
Using a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste,
and carefully cleaning between the teeth with dental floss—
these are the basic essentials for keeping veneers longer.
When veneers can become damaged
Even with excellent care,
damage can occur in the following situations.

Fracture
This occurs when veneers break
due to a strong impact or hard foods.
Small cracks may be repairable,
but severely broken veneers need to be replaced.
Detachment
Veneers may come off if the bonding strength weakens
or a gap develops between the tooth and the veneer.
If a veneer comes off, it is important to visit a dental clinic promptly.
If left untreated, the tooth may become damaged.
Discoloration
Ceramic veneers are highly resistant to discoloration,
but composite resin veneers may change color over time.
If you frequently drink coffee, black tea, or wine,
they may discolor more quickly.
Follow these guidelines to use veneers longer

Following these five guidelines carefully
can significantly extend the lifespan of veneers.
Now, shall we briefly summarize today's discussion?
- The average lifespan of veneers is 10–20 years
- Material, fabrication quality, occlusion, and lifestyle habits determine their lifespan
- Ceramic veneers offer greater strength and longevity than composite resin veneers
- Veneers placed without considering occlusion may have a shorter lifespan
- Proper maintenance can make a significant difference in lifespan
Next time, we will discuss in greater depth
