Hello.
We are Seoul Dia Dental Clinic, providing appropriate treatment guidance based on accurate diagnoses at Magok Station.
The weather these days is really something, isn’t it?
It rains, then the sun comes out brightly, and the air becomes humid and sticky—it feels like everything changes several times a day.
On days like this, an iced Americano becomes especially tempting. Haha.
But here’s the thing:
“Ever since I had my teeth whitened,
my teeth have felt so sensitive every time I drink an iced beverage.”
More people than you might expect have had this experience after whitening.
“Could my teeth have been damaged?”
“Is it supposed to feel this sensitive?”
Today, we’ll address exactly those questions.
We’ll explain why tooth sensitivity occurs after teeth whitening and what you can realistically do about it.

Why does sensitivity occur?
Tooth sensitivity after teeth whitening is actually a very common reaction.
It does not necessarily mean that your teeth have been damaged or that something went wrong.
Understanding the process makes it easier to see why.
As hydrogen peroxide, the whitening ingredient, passes through the enamel on the tooth’s surface and penetrates inward, it temporarily changes the moisture inside the tooth and stimulates the nerve.

Magok Teeth Whitening_Cause of Tooth Sensitivity
In simple terms, the whitening ingredient works deep inside the tooth, temporarily making the nerve more sensitive.
How sensitive can your teeth become?
The degree of sensitivity varies greatly from person to person.
Some people experience no sensitivity at all, while others find it fairly uncomfortable.
In general, sensitivity begins immediately after whitening, is usually at its worst within 24–48 hours, and then naturally improves.
In many cases, the sensitivity disappears within 2–3 days.
You may experience greater sensitivity in these situations
[ If you already have sensitive teeth ]
If you are normally sensitive to cold, you may feel more sensitivity after whitening.
[ If your enamel is thin ]
If the enamel has been worn down or become thin, the whitening ingredient may affect the nerve more quickly.
[ If a high-concentration whitening agent was used ]
The higher the concentration of the whitening agent, as with professional whitening, the more pronounced the sensitivity may be.
However, the results also tend to appear more quickly and clearly.
How to manage sensitivity

Magok Teeth Whitening_Toothpaste for Sensitive Teeth
- Use toothpaste for sensitive teeth
Using toothpaste for sensitive teeth before and after whitening can help reduce sensitivity.
Toothpaste containing potassium nitrate or stannous fluoride can be effective.
- Avoid cold foods and beverages for a while
For 1–2 days after whitening, it is best to avoid cold items such as ice cream and chilled beverages.
Temperature刺激 can make sensitivity worse.
- Do not repeat whitening too soon
If you repeat whitening while your teeth are highly sensitive, the sensitivity may become worse.
It is best to wait until the symptoms have completely subsided before undergoing whitening again.
- Consider fluoride application
Receiving a fluoride application along with whitening can help strengthen the tooth surface and reduce sensitivity.
That is also why fluoride application is included in Seoul Dia Dental Clinic’s SUMMER WHITE event. Haha.
Be sure to visit a dentist in these situations
Most sensitivity naturally improves within 2–3 days, but it is best to visit a dentist promptly in the following cases.
-
The sensitivity does not improve at all even after 2–3 days
-
The sensation changes from sensitivity to throbbing pain
-
You feel severe pain in a specific tooth only
These symptoms may be signs of something beyond the usual whitening-related sensitivity.
If you are hesitating about whitening because you are concerned about sensitivity

Magok Teeth Whitening_Checking Tooth Condition
