Front Tooth Treatment

In the case of front tooth treatment, it is much more difficult and labor-intensive than molar treatment,

and even for the same procedure, it takes more time than treatment for molars.

The reason is that molars are inside the mouth and hidden, so they are not easily visible, whereas front teeth are right where they are seen when smiling or speaking, to the point that they determine a person’s impression.

As for the color, it is not just a simple “white,” but rather a mix of various shades, tones, and hues.

You can tell by looking in the mirror that even within the same tooth, there is not just one color.

Front teeth are smoother and easier to clean than molars, so cavities do not develop as easily.

For that reason, most dental clinics tend to perform more cavity treatment on molars, so molar treatment is generally more common.

However, our Yonsei Yegam Dental Clinic is well known not only for molar cavity treatment but also for front tooth treatment,

which is why patients come from overseas on purpose.

Today, we will introduce a case of crown treatment for a discolored front tooth among front tooth treatments.

Crown for a Discolored and Chipped Front Tooth

The patient was an international student from Europe who came to Yonsei University to attend classes during the vacation,

and visited us to treat the discoloration of a front tooth that had suffered a traumatic injury from impact.

The root canal treatment had already been done at another dental clinic in Europe, but the condition of the root canal treatment was not good,

so this was a case in which we performed root canal treatment again and then placed a crown at our clinic.

This was not simply a yellow tooth,

but a tooth that had become discolored from trauma like this one, so rather than the whitening procedure people usually think of,

a separate whitening treatment called non-vital tooth whitening must be performed for teeth whose nerves have died in order to whiten them.

However, even with non-vital tooth whitening, recurrence often happens again (the color returns), so satisfaction tends to be much lower for people who have had non-vital whitening at other clinics.

If a crown is going to be placed, the visible color can be changed through the crown without having to go through the trouble of non-vital whitening, so there is no need to do that painstaking whitening procedure.

In particular, the tooth above was also chipped, so we performed crown treatment to keep it permanently white and to restore the broken portion to a normal shape through the crown,

which made the patient very satisfied.

Crooked Discolored Tooth Crown

The case above was one in which the patient received treatment because one tooth had changed color and looked unattractive, and because they did not like that only that tooth was crooked.

In this case, root canal treatment had already been done at another clinic, and although the root canal treatment had been performed, the tooth color gradually changed, so with one clearly visible front tooth having a different color, the patient would naturally have wanted the discoloration treated.

We could have tried the non-vital tooth whitening mentioned earlier, but considering the possibility of recurrence and the tooth being crooked,

we performed crown treatment, which can straighten the tooth while reducing it and also change its color permanently.

Since even the crooked tooth was straightened, the patient’s satisfaction was naturally high.

We recommended making one more color adjustment to make it closer to the other teeth,

but the patient was so satisfied with the crown color above that treatment was concluded.

In cases where only one front tooth is discolored like this,

it is usually due to trauma causing discoloration or because the tooth nerve has died and the tooth has become discolored.

Therefore, if root canal treatment has not been done, you can have root canal treatment and then place a crown as above.
