Today, I want to talk about tooth gems. Our clinic is a place that many foreigners visit on purpose to receive treatments such as teeth whitening, laminate veneers, and scaling, and one of the treatments that foreign patients have been asking for quite a bit lately is tooth gems.

These days, tooth gem procedures are becoming popular as one way to complete a pretty smile, and many celebrities have helped make them more well-known. If you attach sparkling, cubic zirconia-like stones to your teeth, they shine every time you smile and can show off your individuality.

But is this tooth gem actually okay for dental health? Where you get it done really matters.

To be honest, tooth gems are not a procedure we would recommend 100% for dental health.

To be frank, a tooth gem is not a necessary treatment for teeth, and attaching something to a perfectly healthy tooth is not good for the teeth. Getting a crown or resin done is something we do because cavities make it necessary for the tooth; there’s no good reason to attach artificial material to a structure in our natural body.

However, if you are someone who says, “I definitely want to do this,” we strongly recommend having it done at a dental clinic for the sake of your dental health.

There are not many clinics that perform tooth gems, but our clinic does offer the procedure because many foreign patients want it.

If you’re considering tooth gems...

You must get them done at a dental clinic.
Only tooth gems performed by a dentist are legal, and anything not directly performed by a dentist is illegal. Even if a dental hygienist does it, it is illegal. Materials and instruments that can be attached to teeth may only be purchased from suppliers by approved medical institutions. If a place that is operating secretly or improperly has materials that only a dental clinic can purchase, can you really trust the expiration date of those materials? If the bonding is not done properly, plaque can build up around the area, cavities can develop more easily, and the tooth can become damaged.
Even after the procedure, brushing habits and ongoing care are important.

Prosecution referral for illegal tooth gem procedures

Self-do-it-yourself tooth gems are absolutely not allowed either!

It seems like there are DIY tooth gem kits being sold online. With these self-applied tooth gems, there is no access to proper dental medical adhesive that can only be purchased through a dental clinic, so the biggest problem is the risk of damaging the tooth surface by using ordinary adhesives.

Once teeth are damaged, they do not recover. If a tooth gets a hole or if a cavity forms, it does not grow back!

The patient was very satisfied after the procedure!

Through consultation with the patient, we learned that the teeth were not clean, so we had to place it only after making everything clean. We performed scaling and tooth polishing, then proceeded in the area the patient wanted.

The patient wanted it placed lower rather than in the middle of the tooth, and also a little inward rather than along the center line of the tooth, so that it would be visible from the front but also subtly visible from the side. We placed it that way, and the patient was 100% satisfied! Since a dental clinic specializes in tooth-related consultation, it’s easy to understand exactly what the patient means. If something is too much or stuck all over the teeth, it can look even messier, but placing it on the canine made it just the right accent. Because it shows when you smile, it became a nice point of attraction! Even as a dental worker myself, I was tempted to try it.

You can see resin used as adhesive piled up around the tooth gem, and the tooth itself is decaying. Do you see how it looks like the tooth is being eaten away and rotting?

Do not choose tooth gems just because they’re cheap and get them done illegally somewhere. It ruins your dental health. The value of natural teeth cannot be compared with the price of a tooth gem.
