Do office workers really need to get an oral examination?
Hello, as the end of the year approaches, people who are eligible for the national health checkup are busy getting their health examinations.
Sometimes, people who received their national health checkup at a hospital without a dental department come to our Yeonsei Yegam Dental Clinic near City Hall Station to get a separate national oral examination.
Our Yeonsei Yegam Dental Clinic near City Hall Station is located straight ahead, a 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of City Hall Station (across from Samsung Main Building), and is surrounded by many office buildings.
Because of that, many office workers come to us to get an additional oral examination after submitting their health checkup results.
It is also easy to get here from Seodaemun Station, Euljiro, Gwanghwamun, Chungjeongno, and Seoul Station!
The employee oral examination is a checkup supported by the National Health Insurance Service.
If you simply go to a dental clinic for an oral examination, most people in Korea will be charged insurance-covered fees under the National Health Insurance system.
But if you say you are here for an employee oral examination—this is an oral examination reported to the government—after confirming whether you are eligible (eligibility must be checked, such as once every two years or once every year), you can receive it free of charge with no out-of-pocket cost if you qualify.
Just knowing what oral diseases you may have and whether problems are likely to arise in the future can change the direction of your oral health management.
If an insured employee does not undergo the health checkup, the employer may be fined, so companies strongly encourage employees to get their health checkups.
When you do get your checkup, be sure to include the oral examination as well!
Is it free only for office workers?
The employee oral examination is not only for office workers.
If you are enrolled in the National Health Insurance system, you can also receive an oral examination together with the general health checkup as an eligible examinee.
Regional subscribers, dependents, and Medical Aid recipients can also receive an oral examination together with the general health checkup once every two years.
Employee oral examination frequency and cycle
Regional subscribers and employee dependents: age 20 and older, once every 2 years
Employee subscribers: once every 2 years for office workers, once every year for non-office workers, and NHIS oral examinations are available.
Medical Aid recipients: ages 19 to 64, once every 2 years.
If you are enrolled in the National Health Insurance system, most people are eligible for an oral examination at regular intervals!
Where can you get an employee oral examination?
You cannot get an employee oral examination at just any dental clinic.
An employee oral examination must pass the required standards and procedures and be received at a medical institution designated by the National Health Insurance Service.
Therefore, some general dental clinics provide employee oral examinations (NHIS oral examinations), while others do not.
So if you want an employee oral examination at a dental clinic only, it is best to call and confirm before visiting!
At comprehensive health checkup centers or places where there is a dental department inside the hospital, you can sometimes do it together during the health checkup, and another option is to receive the health checkup at a general internal medicine clinic and then visit a dental clinic separately for the oral examination!

Our Yeonsei Yegam Dental Clinic was designated as an oral examination institution in 2018!
Our Yeonsei Yegam Dental Clinic near City Hall Station is directly across from Samsung Main Building, where the well-known Gangbuk Samsung Hospital Health Checkup Center (Taepyeong-ro) is located.
So even if patients get their oral examination at Gangbuk Samsung Hospital Health Checkup Center, they sometimes visit our clinic 바로 across the street for scaling.
That was the employee oral examination explained by Yeonsei Yegam Dental Clinic.
If you are eligible this year, do it as soon as possible! Be sure to get not only the health checkup but also the oral examination.
