Actual Case: Concerns About Yellowish Teeth

Let us compare the before-and-after results through an actual veneer case involving a male patient at our dental clinic.

The patient visited us because he said, “When I take pictures with my baby, my own teeth look far too yellow.”

He initially said that he was considering a total of 12 teeth—6 upper teeth and 6 lower teeth.

During the examination, we also checked the following:

Existing tooth color

The size and proportions of the front teeth

Tooth alignment and the lip line

The length of the teeth visible when smiling

Whether treatment was possible without tooth reduction or required minimal reduction

Whether the veneers would be subjected to excessive stress during occlusion

Veneers are not simply a treatment in which something “white is attached”; they require consideration of the color, shape, thickness, and occlusion of the teeth.

In particular, with front-tooth veneers, even small differences can significantly change the overall impression,

so the initial diagnosis and design process are very important.

The patient wanted a total of 12 teeth—6 upper and 6 lower—but the dentist explained that the upper teeth cover the lower teeth and that the upper teeth are usually the most visible when smiling, so it would be best to start with only 6 upper teeth. As a result, treatment was performed on fewer teeth than the 12 the patient had initially mentioned—only the 6 upper teeth.

After all, these are restorations attached to the patient’s natural teeth.

Although veneers are extremely thin, they are still restorations added onto the natural teeth, so it is better to slightly smooth any areas where the tooth alignment protrudes or is uneven.

In this patient’s case as well, only the protruding areas were slightly smoothed before proceeding.

The patient said he did not want teeth that looked excessively white or obvious, like those of celebrity X-hee,

so we proceeded with a natural yet brighter shade.

When No-Prep Veneers Are Possible

Many people want no-prep veneers.

As the name suggests, this method involves little to no reduction of the teeth

and attaching thin ceramic restorations without reduction.

However, no-prep treatment is not possible in every case.

No-prep veneers may be relatively suitable in the following situations:

When the teeth are positioned inward

When the teeth are small or undersized

When there are spaces between the teeth

When the existing teeth are not excessively protruded

When the discoloration is not severe and can be covered with thin ceramic

Conversely, when the teeth already protrude forward,

when the color is very dark,

or when the alignment is significantly irregular,

proceeding with completely no-prep veneers may make the teeth look thicker

or produce an unnatural result.

In such cases, minimal-prep veneers may create a more natural and stable result.

When Minimal-Prep Veneers Can Look More Natural

What is important with veneers

is not simply avoiding tooth reduction at all costs,

but reducing only the amount necessary and doing so precisely.

If the focus is solely on reducing the amount of tooth reduction as much as possible,

there may not be enough space for the ceramic thickness, meaning the color may not be adequately masked,

or the teeth may look too thick after completion.

Conversely, excessive and unnecessary reduction

can cause greater damage to the natural teeth.

then determine whether no-prep treatment is possible,

or whether another treatment would be better than veneers.

A dentist’s diagnosis is required before veneers: the examination fee is covered by National Health Insurance.

Veneers: KRW 650,000 per tooth

For treatment of 2 or more teeth: KRW 500,000 per tooth

Veneers and teeth whitening are for cosmetic purposes,

so under the relevant laws, an additional 10% VAT is charged separately.

the cavity may need to be removed or treated before the veneer is placed.

4. The production period for veneers is

approximately one week for 1 tooth and 8–10 days for 2 or more teeth.)

How Long Does Veneer Production Take?

they are produced through a precise laboratory process.

Rather than veneers that are made by simply milling a block with a machine in a short time, resulting in an opaque and unnatural appearance,

our veneers undergo a precise laboratory process.

The general production periods are as follows:

1 tooth: approximately 7 days

2 teeth: approximately 8 days

3 or more teeth: approximately 12 days

However, the period may vary depending on the condition of the teeth, public holidays, and the laboratory schedule.

If you have travel plans or an important photo or filming schedule,

it is best to consult with sufficient time in advance.
