Chungjeong-ro Dental Clinic, Euljiro Dental Clinic / A Case of Cervical Abrasion Resin Treatment for Teeth That Looked Yellowed as If the Roots Had Been Grooved and Eroded

Hello.

This is Yonsei Yegam Dental Clinic, located at Seoul City Hall Station in the heart of Seoul.

We are located directly across from the Samsung Main Building.

We are also close to Chungjeong-ro, Euljiro, Gwanghwamun, Seodaemun Station, Seoul Station, and Myeong-dong,

and since opening in 2018, we have welcomed many office workers from the surrounding area.

Today, we would like to introduce a case of cervical resin treatment for a patient who visited us because the area where the teeth and gums meet had become grooved and discolored.

Looking at the photographs taken before treatment, the facial surfaces of the teeth were also worn and indented, making it difficult to view this as simple cervical abrasion.

It appeared to be enamel damage caused by multiple factors, including not only the causes of cervical abrasion but also frequent consumption of acidic foods or drinks and possible digestive issues. This type of damage can progress to multiple areas of tooth wear and decay.

The grooved areas were also sensitive.

In particular, the tooth marked with an arrow in the photograph above did not appear to be in good condition, as its color itself made it look as though it might progress to decay.

We originally explained that we would perform resin treatment on six teeth—three on the right and three on the left—but the patient wanted two additional teeth treated, for a total of eight teeth.

Our dental clinic is located at Seoul City Hall Station,

between Namdaemun and Gwanghwamun and near Deoksugung Palace.

Because many international visitors come to our clinic hoping to improve the appearance of their teeth, we understand our patients' needs well compared with general dental clinics that primarily treat ordinary cavities.

When restoring the front teeth, we use our judgment based on their position. By selecting a shade that is slightly whiter than the patient's natural teeth while still looking natural,

we can make the teeth appear brighter overall and create a more pleasant impression when the patient smiles, even without teeth whitening.

Although the patient did not undergo teeth whitening, restoring the yellowed areas of the upper teeth—which account for most of the teeth visible when smiling—creates an optical effect that makes the teeth look brighter overall.

If enamel erosion is in an early stage, such as demineralization, white spots, or mild sensitivity, it may be managed through preventive care.

However, resin treatment may be performed when the erosion is more severe.

The photograph below shows a patient who received resin treatment on two teeth with brown discoloration caused by erosion.

In addition to the brown teeth, several teeth appear to have white spots, suggesting that the teeth themselves are not in an entirely healthy condition. These white spots can sometimes turn brown.

Whether resin treatment is appropriate for teeth with enamel erosion, worn cervical areas, or other cervical problems must be discussed carefully with the treating dentist before proceeding.

Treating just these teeth often produces an effect that makes the overall appearance look noticeably brighter.
