Hello.
This is Mutol Plastic Surgery.
As we age, the area of the face that shows the most noticeable
changes is probably the eyes.
Compared with other parts of the face, the skin around the eyes is
relatively thin and moves a lot,
so it easily sags and develops wrinkles with aging.
In some people, the original double eyelid may be
covered, or the eye area may look droopy.
In severe cases, the eyelid can block the field of vision,
which may cause functional problems as well.
In such cases, simple double eyelid surgery alone has
limitations in fully improving the symptoms.
Instead, a brow lift can improve sagging
and create a brighter impression.
Today, I’d like to take time to explain the purpose and process
of this surgery, as well as how it differs from
double eyelid surgery.

What kind of surgery is it?
A brow lift removes the excess tissue that has stretched
below the eyebrow and physically lifts the muscles and skin
of the upper eyelid to change the shape of the eyes.
As the name suggests, it is a surgery that lifts the tissue
below the eyebrow.
Rather than directly working on the double eyelid line,
this surgery makes the hidden eyes visible and
helps the eye area look clearer by整理ing the sagging
area between the eyebrow and the eye.

Who is it recommended for?
A brow lift is highly effective for people who want to improve
sagging while keeping their existing double eyelids,
or for those with a wide gap between the eyebrow and the eye
who frequently use their forehead muscles.
It is also a good option, depending on the proper diagnosis
of a board-certified plastic surgeon, for people who find a forehead lift
mentally burdensome but only want to improve sagging of the eyelids.

What are its advantages?
The biggest advantage is, of course, its naturalness.
Without unnecessarily creating a new double eyelid,
this surgery preserves the existing double eyelid line while
partially removing the sagging muscles and skin,
so it looks natural right after surgery and recovers quickly.
Through a brow lift, the overall impression can be made
softer than before, improving eye areas that look older
and helping restore a more youthful appearance.
Also, by addressing pseudo-ptosis, it becomes easier to open the eyes,
which often relieves discomfort and gives the feeling
that the eyes open more clearly.

How is it performed?
First, a board-certified plastic surgeon directly analyzes the face
to determine whether the patient is a suitable candidate for a brow lift,
judges the necessity of surgery, and adjusts the plan
while reflecting the patient’s needs.
The surgery is performed under light sedation anesthesia.
An incision is made along the line just below the eyebrow,
and both eyelids are lifted to improve the eye shape
in a way that corrects asymmetry.
If the orbicularis oculi muscle, which helps close the eyes,
is too bulky, the amount of muscle is appropriately reduced,
and after removing an appropriate amount of eyelid skin,
the surgery is completed with sutures.
During this process, the factors that interfere with opening the eyes
are reduced, making it naturally easier to open them.
The incision is placed right below the eyebrow, so it is not very visible.
The surgery usually takes about 1 hour,
stitches are removed 7 to 9 days after surgery,
and swelling and bruising usually subside mostly within about 1 week,
so it does not significantly disrupt daily life.

What is the difference from double eyelid surgery?
The biggest difference is that it does not create a new double eyelid line,
but instead removes only the sagging eyelid tissue.
If you have had a clear double eyelid since you were young,
or if you previously had double eyelid surgery but the line has become hidden
as the eyelids sagged over time, a brow lift alone can achieve a clearly more youthful effect
without double eyelid surgery.
However, if you naturally have no double eyelids,
a buried or partial-incision double eyelid surgery can be performed together with
the brow lift to create a new line.
The detailed plan is determined after consultation with a specialist.

What should you be careful about?
Although a brow lift may seem relatively simple,
it actually requires very delicate design and technique.
If too much is removed, the space between the eyebrow and the eye may become too narrow,
which can make the impression look awkward.
On the other hand, if too little is removed, the degree of change may be small,
and you may not get the effect you expected.
To minimize scarring at the incision site,
a detailed design that comprehensively considers the shape of the eyebrow and the condition of the hair,
along with delicate suturing techniques,
is necessary to achieve good results.
Therefore, this is not simply a surgery that “cuts the skin.”
It requires the insight of a specialist who can accurately judge and understand
facial proportions and muscle structure.

Why it is good to combine it with semi-permanent eyebrow makeup
When a brow lift involves incision and suturing,
the shape of the eyebrows changes slightly compared with before.
After surgery, combining it with semi-permanent eyebrow makeup
can help complete a much more natural-looking impression.
After correcting sagging skin through surgery,
semi-permanent eyebrow makeup can fill in the overall eyebrow shape and color,
helping improve symmetry and the proportions of the entire face.
Semi-permanent makeup itself can help cover eyebrow scars,
and because it has a strong positive cosmetic effect,
you can expect a synergistic effect with the surgery.

In closing...
A brow lift is not simply a “surgery that cuts away skin.”
It is a procedure that relieves everyday discomfort while also
brightening the overall impression.
For people who are stressed by a changed impression caused by
age-related eyelid sagging, or for those who feel discomfort when opening their eyes,
it can improve both appearance and function.
If, according to the medical team’s judgment, additional
semi-permanent eyebrow makeup is performed after surgery,
it can cover scars and further improve the final result.
