Hello :)
This is BT Plastic Surgery.
Today, we’d like to talk about the key procedure for changing the shape of the face:
the three-part contouring surgery.
"I thought reducing only my cheekbones would be enough, but something feels off."
"My jaw is slimmer, but it still looks wide."
Have you ever heard concerns like these?
The reason is that what matters is not one "part" of the face,
but the harmony of the overall contour.
What exactly is three-part contouring surgery?
Three-part contouring surgery is
cheekbone reduction surgery, square jaw surgery, and chin surgery
— a combination of these three procedures to refine the overall line of the face.
Because it is designed with the overall structure in mind,
including the three-dimensional look and balance that a single procedure alone may not achieve,
it can lead to a more natural
and more refined result.
What role does each procedure play?
✔️ Cheekbone reduction surgery
• Reduces protruding cheekbones from both the front and the 45-degree angle, making the face look smaller and softer.
• Methods such as removing and rotating the bone inward are commonly used.
✔️ Square jaw surgery
• Smooths an angular jawline to complete a slimmer face shape.
• It is not just about cutting the bone; the degree of muscle development is also diagnosed, and a customized surgery is needed.
✔️ Chin surgery
• Adjusts a chin that is too pointed or too blunt, refining the vertical proportions of the face.
• Methods such as T-osteotomy, cortical bone removal, and advancement surgery are often selected based on the individual’s face shape.
Do the three contouring procedures have to be done at the same time?
Not necessarily, but if needed, it is usually more efficient to perform them together.
Because facial contours are a connected structure,
natural results come from planning with the overall flow in mind.
If they are done separately,
the time gap between surgeries may create
imbalance or the possibility of additional surgery.
Above all, there is also a major advantage in reducing the burden by having one anesthesia and one recovery period.
Recovery period & side effects?
The greatest swelling appears between 3 days and 1 week after surgery.
After about 2 weeks, daily life is possible, and over 3 to 6 months, or even up to 1 year,
swelling and the facial line gradually stabilize.
This varies from person to person, so it is difficult to explain definitively.
Although rare, complications such as sensory changes and nerve damage can occur,
so the surgeon’s experience and technical skill are essential.
Three-part contouring surgery is not simply a procedure to create a "pretty face shape,"
but one that finds the three-dimensional harmony and proportions that best suit your face.
Under the precise diagnosis of a board-certified plastic surgeon and a safe surgical system,
a natural and harmonious face shape is absolutely possible.
At BT Plastic Surgery, from preoperative 3D CT diagnosis to design and postoperative care,
we are responsible for your safe surgery through a thorough system across the entire process.
