Precautions After Facial Contouring Surgery (2) - Meal Guide | Gruel, Recommended Protein Drinks, Hard Foods

Following the last post,

this time I’d like to talk about meal-related precautions after facial contouring surgery.

Since facial contouring surgery involves a great deal of intraoral incision above all else,

after surgery, patients are swollen, so

1. It is hard to open the mouth.
2. There are wounds.
3. Blood pools and comes out.

Because of these three reasons, eating can be quite uncomfortable.

As for the type of meals themselves, it actually does not matter that much,

but before the stitches inside the mouth are removed after surgery, in other words, until about two weeks later,

food can have a negative effect on the wound.

If the wound opens up, or if a wound that remains there for a long time becomes inflamed and does not close,

there can be cases like that,

so at first we recommend patients eat liquids,

and foods that are as soft as possible, such as gruel or protein drinks.

After about a week, if there is no blood at all and the wound is clean,

you may eat light rice meals, but after eating,

it is essential to gargle and rinse the mouth so that food does not get stuck.

In the case of surgery such as cheekbone reduction,

chewing hard foods itself is a factor because the muscles are attached to the cheekbones,

and it acts as a pulling force on the muscles attached to the cheekbones,

so if you chew very hard foods aggressively,

a lot of force is applied to the fixation pins themselves,

and that can cause some movement in the bone,

so we ask that hard foods be avoided for 1 to 2 months after surgery.
