The nose, like the eyes, comes in many different shapes.
Depending on its length, height, and shape, the nose sits at the center of the face and has a major impact on appearance.
Among them, the short nose, which is common in East Asians,
is often called a turned-up nose or pig nose and can easily give a rustic impression.
It can also disrupt the balance of the facial features, making it difficult to have a positive image, and in physiognomy it was also considered one of the nose shapes disliked because it was thought to let wealth leak away.
A short nose can be caused by small nasal bone or cartilage,
and it can make the face look flatter by reducing its three-dimensional appearance.

In addition, to determine whether the nose is a turned-up nose with nostrils highly visible from the front,
whether the alar cartilage at the tip is lifted upward,
or whether it is simply a short nose,
appropriate surgery must be performed based on the characteristics of the nose
in order to achieve clear improvement and highly satisfying results.
This type of nose can be improved by using implants or autologous tissue to raise the low starting point of the nose upward.
Today, let’s take a closer look at the surgical methods for a short nose :D
A short nose common among East Asians

As mentioned earlier, a short nose refers to a turned-up nose in which the nose length is shorter than one-third of the entire face and is lifted so that the nostrils are highly visible from the front.
It also includes noses that have become shorter due to contracture, one of the side effects of nose surgery.
For this type of nose, not only the height but also the length must be improved together.
If an implant is used without correction, the nose may become even shorter and look more lifted, making it one of the more difficult types of nose surgery.
If the alar cartilage at the tip points upward, the tip may look lifted and the nose may appear shorter.
This can be improved with cartilage surgery.
After removing the upper part of the alar cartilage at the tip and moving it downward to fix it in place, the height of the tip is lowered and the length can also be increased!
Even a short nose can become more beautiful!

At DM Plastic Surgery, our specialized eye and nose surgery medical team, with extensive clinical experience and proven expertise, performs 1:1 customized rhinoplasty after thorough consultation to match each individual’s preferences and nasal condition.
By accurately assessing the current condition and using the appropriate surgical method, clear improvement is possible, and we help improve the image by creating the most ideal nose while considering the overall proportions, harmony, and angle.
In addition, 3D-CT analysis allows for safer and more three-dimensional evaluation, and we establish an accurate surgical plan by identifying not only the internal structure that cannot be seen in a general consultation, but also the muscle layer and skin tissue condition.
Surgical Methods by Short-Nose Type

If the alar cartilage that forms the tip of the nose is pointing upward,
cartilage surgery is used to remove part of the upper alar cartilage
and lower its position to correct it.

If correction is difficult with the cartilage surgery mentioned above,
a portion of the alar cartilage is removed and septal cartilage is grafted between the ends
to lengthen the tip of the nose.

After correcting the length of a short nose with the two surgical methods described above,
this method adjusts the length and height of the nasal bridge and tip using implants and autologous cartilage.
Since there are various methods, the most important thing is to identify the condition and problems of the nose.
A procedure tailored to each individual is necessary to achieve highly satisfying results,
and because it leads to clear improvement, we recommend visiting our clinic and receiving a thorough consultation with our experienced medical team.
