How important is collaboration across dental specialties?

Dr. Kim Yongjin of Yesmir Dental
I am a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
As you all know, a surgeon is a doctor who specializes in surgery.
In this case, it would be a dentist.
Before explaining why collaboration with other specialties is important, from the perspective of someone who performs surgery, I believe that one inevitably lacks specialized knowledge in final prosthetics.
So before surgery, we can consult with a prosthodontic specialist about the appropriate surgical method.
Also, in the end, the purpose of implant treatment is to create teeth.
I believe that to do that well, you need to understand the perspective of the person who makes the teeth, that is, the prosthodontic specialist.
To put it simply,
it can be compared to carpentry.
Just as collaboration between a designer and a carpenter
creates a good building,
I believe that collaboration between a prosthodontic specialist and an oral surgeon
can complete good implant treatment.
Is it possible to reoperate on a failed implant?

Dr. Kim Yongjin of Yesmir Dental
We also receive many referrals for cases where implant placement failed at another dental clinic.
The most memorable patient recently was a captain living in Udo, Jeju Island.
He was a case in which multiple implant attempts were made at another clinic during the COVID period and failed.
In the end, he also developed sinusitis,
had sinusitis surgery at a hospital in Jeju,
and suffered for two years before finally being referred to Yesmir Dental,
where he underwent implant reoperation.
The treatment is still ongoing,
but one side has already been completed,
so he can eat on that side,
and we plan to place the implant on the right side soon.
For patients who come from far away like this,
we naturally want to reduce the number of visits
and shorten the treatment period.
However, for patients who have gone through repeated difficulties
and have experienced many failures,
I believe that more careful diagnosis and surgery are needed
rather than simply focusing on time.
Those things are what we consider
our most distinctive protocol at Yesmir Dental.
Can wisdom teeth be extracted with less pain?

Dr. Kim Yongjin of Yesmir Dental
When I extract wisdom teeth at our clinic,
the area I pay the most attention to is post-operative discomfort.
There are several ways to reduce post-operative discomfort.
We focus most on these two points: making the incision as small as possible,
and removing the tooth as quickly as possible.
So before surgery, we take a CT scan, plan the extraction,
make an incision of an appropriate size,
and aim to finish as quickly as possible.
That is the protocol at Yesmir Dental.
