What Are Immediate Temporary Teeth?

Immediate temporary teeth are a treatment method in which temporary prosthetic teeth are connected on the day the implants are placed or within a very short period of time.

Simply put, this treatment reduces the amount of time you need to spend without teeth after surgery.

In particular, when undergoing full-mouth implant treatment, immediate temporary teeth are often used with consideration for appearance and daily life.

However, this treatment is not suitable for every patient. Whether it is possible is determined through sufficient examination and diagnosis.

Advantages of Immediate Temporary Teeth

When temporary teeth cannot be provided, patients often use temporary dentures instead. However, these can be uncomfortable because they may come loose and press against the gums, causing pain.

They can also be inconvenient in many ways, including eating and appearance.

The greatest advantage of immediate temporary teeth is that they can shorten the period during which you have no teeth.

Especially when the front teeth are involved, they can reduce concerns about appearance and may also help you return to daily life.

Can Anyone Receive Immediate Temporary Teeth?

• Whether the amount and quality of the jawbone are appropriate

• Whether the bite is stable

• Whether there is no severe teeth-grinding or jaw-clenching habit

• Whether the patient’s general health is good

After comprehensively evaluating these factors through a 3D CT scan and oral examination, a treatment plan is determined.

With immediate temporary teeth, it is not the speed of the treatment that matters most. More important is whether the conditions are in place to proceed safely.

Immediate Temporary Teeth Do Not Mean You Can Chew Freely Right Away

This is the point that patients misunderstand most often.

Having immediate temporary teeth placed does not mean that you can use them freely like natural teeth.

Temporary teeth are prosthetic restorations intended to restore appearance and basic function. Until osseointegration—when the implants firmly bond with the jawbone—is complete, excessive force should be avoided.

In the early stages, it is best to eat mainly soft foods and avoid biting into food with your front teeth or eating tough and hard foods.

Once osseointegration is complete, the temporary teeth will be replaced with the final prosthetic teeth.
