For people who do not have double eyelids, many have probably wondered at least once what it would be like if they did. When you see someone nearby with beautiful double eyelids, you may have wondered what it would be like to have those same eyelids and tried making double eyelids in various ways. People use double-eyelid glue or tape, or even tools such as tweezers or toothpicks to forcefully draw a crease on the skin and create a double eyelid, but using these non-medical tools often causes skin problems.

When you try to create double eyelids using various tools, people with thin skin may get a crease line, but in the end an unwanted new line forms or it disappears. Such imperfect double-eyelid lines can also cause the side effect of multiple eyelids, and people with thicker skin often end up with damaged skin rather than a double eyelid.

In the end, to create proper double eyelids, you need a medical method, that is, double eyelid surgery, to make the desired crease line. The surgery is performed using the buried-suture method or incision method, and the result is usually shaped as either an inner crease or an outer crease. An outer crease gives a more glamorous and defined double-eyelid line, while an inner crease gives a natural and clear eye appearance.
People with large eyes, no epicanthal folds, and thin skin may suit a glamorous outer crease well. On the other hand, for people whose eyes are relatively smaller, who have a pronounced epicanthal fold, and who have thicker skin, it is more natural to set the line as an inner crease. That does not mean an inner crease is less beautiful than an outer crease; an inner crease that is as charming as an outer crease can certainly be created through appropriately designed surgery.

After all, even if someone with small eyes and thick skin has surgery for an outer crease, it can end up looking like a sausage-like fold and an 부담스러운 eye. In such cases, an inner crease, even if it is subtle, may look clearer and more natural. Rather than a one-size-fits-all design, an appropriate design for each individual eye—whether an outer crease or an inner crease—is the better choice.

If people with thick skin want an outer crease and the line is set too high, the distance that the skin must be pulled to create the double eyelid increases, making it easier for the crease to loosen. And if the epicanthal fold is pronounced, it may need to be excessively removed, which can worsen a depressed scar. Just as products around us look prettier when they are designed appropriately, don’t forget that in cosmetic surgery too, appropriate design is an important point that can make the result look more beautiful!
