Eye In-Inner, Outer, and Double-Eyelid Line Selection

Whether it is a natural double eyelid or a surgical double eyelid, the line shape is different in each case. In general, it is divided into three types of shapes: inline, in-out line, and out line. Unless the epicanthic fold is severe and the eyes are extremely small, any of these shapes usually suits the face well, and the choice is often simply a matter of preference.

The inline is a double-eyelid line shape common among East Asians such as Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese who have an epicanthic fold. In fact, when it comes to looking natural, the inline is the most natural. Usually, when no epicanthoplasty is performed and the epicanthic fold remains, the double-eyelid line goes into the inner side of the epicanthic fold at the front of the eye and becomes smaller compared with the outer double-eyelid line.

The in-out line has the characteristics of both the inline and the out line. The line at the front of the eye gradually becomes smaller and converges compared with the double-eyelid line at the back of the eye, but it does not extend into the inner side of the epicanthic fold. An in-out line can be designed when combined with an appropriate amount of epicanthoplasty. Also, because the double-eyelid line at the front of the eye is somewhat visible like an out line, the advantage is that it can make the eyes look a little more glamorous.

The out line is a shape often seen in the eyes of Westerners or Southeast Asians who do not have an epicanthic fold. It suits large eyes well and makes the eyes look clear and bright. In fact, the out line is more suitable for somewhat more demanding eye conditions, so it suits eyes with a large eye structure, strong eye-opening power, and no epicanthic fold. For small eyes or eyes with a severe epicanthic fold, it is often not suitable. If you want an out line, you should either design the double-eyelid line slightly larger or perform epicanthoplasty to remove the epicanthic fold as well.

The choice of eye in-out and out double-eyelid lines can take personal preference into account, but the most important thing is medical judgment. Therefore, after deciding on surgery, you should go to a plastic surgery clinic in person and make the final decision only after careful consultation.
