Generally, many people undergo lateral canthoplasty to make the eyes look bigger.

However, if you only have lateral canthoplasty, the corners of the eyes can quickly reattach,

and the raised outer corners remain in place, making the eyes look harsh,

so in most cases, lower canthoplasty is performed together.

This combination of lateral and lower canthoplasty

is the standard approach for simple lateral canthoplasty.

Even when both lateral and lower canthoplasty are performed at once,

However, before undergoing lateral canthoplasty, for patients who previously had lower canthoplasty,

if the lower canthoplasty is still strongly holding the area under the eyes,

then when the outer corner is lowered through lateral canthoplasty, the area under the eyes may not follow naturally.

In some cases, the lower canthoplasty is released first and then lateral canthoplasty is performed.

When that happens, the area under the eyes naturally lowers along with the lowered outer corners,

allowing for a much smoother and larger-looking eye shape.

Although this patient had already undergone both lateral and lower canthoplasty at another hospital before surgery,
