[Rari Plastic Surgery] After double eyelid removal surgery, will asymmetry improve?

As double eyelid removal surgery has become more widely known,

more and more people are also undergoing double eyelid removal surgery.

Double eyelid removal surgery is not limited by gender or age,

but among all the cases, a large portion of patients are men.

Even when men come in confidently for surgery,

they often have much less experience with cosmetic procedures than women,

so many of them worry about recovery and the overall course.

There are three major concerns after double eyelid removal surgery.

First, the double eyelids are still visible

This is the most common concern right after surgery.

I definitely had double eyelid removal surgery,

so why do the double eyelids still look visible, or even larger?

Right after surgery, the anesthetic is still in the eyes and swelling is present,

so the double eyelids may still appear to remain along the incision line.

As time passes and the swelling goes down, they become less visible.

Second, eyelid flipping

Third, the two eyes look different.

These two concerns are common around the time the stitches are removed.

The eyelids are lifted and look flipped, and they feel very dry.

Also, the two sides look too different—is that okay?

I want my eyes to look like this side; will the other side really become the same?

After removing the double eyelids, the upper eyelids come into direct contact with the eyes,

and the eye shape can look pressed down and stuffy.

That is why we intentionally turn up the upper lash area a little.

Depending on the eye shape and condition, as well as the amount of swelling,

the eyelids may be turned up more strongly or less so,

and the amount of the visible line may differ between the two sides.

Because of this, the eyes can look asymmetrical.

When looking at the incision line with the eyes cast downward,

before surgery the height of the lines on both sides was quite different,

but after surgery the heights were adjusted to be similar,

yet on day 6 after surgery, the eyes looked different when opened.

However, two months after surgery, both sides became nearly even.

As mentioned above, this area is intentionally turned up,

or the surgery is performed to match the patient’s original eye condition.

The eyelids are slightly turned outward, which can be accompanied by dryness and a stinging sensation in the eyes,

and although the eyes may look a little (or a lot?) different for now,

in most cases, as time passes and the eyes fully settle, the symptoms improve and the two sides become more balanced.

Surgery is not done to check the short-term course,

but for more long-term results,

so waiting through the recovery process is essential.
