There are people whose mouths seem especially protruded when they look in the mirror.

Some truly have a protruding maxilla, which makes the mouth look forward, or have teeth that grow in unevenly, making the mouth appear protruded, and there are people with an actually protruding oral structure.

On the other hand, some people do not actually have a protruding mouth, but because the angle formed by the nose and philtrum is small, their mouth can sometimes appear more prominent than their nose.

For people whose mouths are truly protruded, correction is done through bone-related surgery to solve the fundamental problem, but there is also a simpler way to improve it without touching the bone.

That is cat surgery!

Cat surgery, which increases the angle formed by the columella and the philtrum, the nose’s support structure, is usually performed together with nose surgery rather than on its own. This is because to raise the nasal tip and firmly support the columella, while also filling in the depressed inner skin area, the effect can be much more noticeable.

In the photo above, the angle of the marked area was acute (less than 90 degrees) before surgery, but after surgery it changed to an obtuse angle (greater than 90 degrees).

If you simply lift the nasal tip upward to increase that angle, the nose can look overly upturned like a pig nose, and the nostrils may be too exposed from the front, which can feel awkward. So rather than just raising the nasal tip upward, the inner columellar structure of the nose must be well shaped, and the inside also needs to be properly filled so that there are no empty spaces and no collapse.

If only the nasal tip becomes too high, that can also feel unnatural, so the previous low silicone implant on the bridge needs to be replaced with one of an appropriate thickness. When the overall nose line is created to match the height of the nasal tip, even if the tip is slightly higher than expected, it can look smoother and more natural.

Another point is the volume of the columella. Looking at the preoperative photo, the columella area drops flat and abruptly, but after surgery, the columella area was made to protrude slightly, completing a nose shape that is three-dimensional and full of volume rather than flat and simple.

As the marked angle became larger, nothing was done to the mouth itself, but the appearance of protrusion improved significantly, so from the bridge to the nasal tip and the mouth line, everything looks more natural.

Of course, even with cat surgery, the degree of improvement in a protruding mouth can vary. Just as a truly protruded mouth cannot be pushed in by cat surgery. That is why the word “improvement” is used.

Before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery Nose surgery has the disadvantage that the entire face swells after the operation, so the range of swelling is broad, but at the same time, that major swelling goes down quickly in a short period of time, so unlike procedures such as eye surgery, which are sensitive to swelling, it has the advantage of a shorter recovery period.
