[Lari Plastic Surgery] If you want to get rid of a double-fold eyelid with overlapping folds, the unavoidable upper eyelid eversion can improve.

There are not only clear double eyelids among people who come in to remove their double eyelids.

While some have a distinct double eyelid line,

others have a faint fold that seems like it may or may not form,

some have mismatched double eyelids, with one side present and the other absent,

and some have double eyelids with multiple overlapping folds.

Today, we will look at the reasons for upper eyelid eversion that can occur after double eyelid removal surgery, and the process by which the eversion improves.

This patient came to the hospital wanting to remove the double eyelids. On the right eye (left in the photo), there is a large double eyelid line, and on the left eye there are faint but multiple overlapping folds.

The goal was to create an eyelid fold close to a single eyelid and neatly organize the large, multiple-fold line.

The day after the double eyelid removal surgery, the right eye (left in the photo) looked fine, but the left eye still had multiple creases above. So the left eye was operated on again so that no line would form above it.

This is the appearance immediately after the repeat surgery. The eye condition in the photo may not look very different before and after the reoperation, but reoperating when there is significant swelling is not an easy task.

The stitches were removed after the surgery. Although it had been less than a week since the operation, the swelling had decreased a lot compared to the day after surgery.

It was clear that the swelling had gone down, but once the swelling subsided, the upper eyelid was found to have turned outward, exposing the mucosa. The right eye was less of an issue, but the left eye was very severe.

We need to understand the reason.

Looking at this patient’s preoperative photos, we could see that the left eye had faint but multiple lines.

To make them easier to distinguish, I drew only a few major lines, but if you look closely, there were many overlapping folds beyond those lines as well.

For a double eyelid line with several overlapping folds like this, it is important to release the adhesions in the line and, at the same time, firmly fix the orbital fat brought down from above and the upper eyelid levator aponeurosis so that the line does not form again. When fixed in that way, upper eyelid eversion on the upper eyelid mucosa is inevitably created.

Of course, this upper eyelid eversion is not permanent. It gradually improves over time, but in this state there are cosmetic issues that are not pleasant to look at, and functional problems such as dry eyes or eye irritation may also occur, so some discomfort has to be tolerated for a certain period until it gets better.

Although the mucosa is still turned outward and reddened, compared to the day the stitches were removed, the one-month follow-up shows a truly significant improvement.

At four months after surgery, the right eye had almost settled into place, and the left eye had also improved a lot, with the redness of the mucosa gone and the eversion noticeably relieved.

Because the left eye underwent surgery twice, recovery was somewhat slow, so it has not fully healed yet and needs more time, but you can see that it is gradually improving.

Even if you feel discomfort or are worried, don’t rush yourself and follow the hospital’s instructions carefully while waiting, and you will be able to see and feel the improvement.
