Today, we’re going to take a closer look at double eyelid removal surgery in

1. Causes of Double Eyelids

First, let’s look at the causes of double eyelids.

There are natural double eyelids you were born with,

A: Natural double eyelid

B: Natural double eyelid

C: Natural double eyelid

D: Natural double eyelid

There are surgical double eyelids, created through double eyelid surgery for whatever reason,

E: Surgically created double eyelid

F: Surgically created double eyelid

G: Surgically created double eyelid (loosened)

And there are natural double eyelids that appear suddenly or gradually.

H: A double eyelid that was not originally there but appeared naturally or over time

These are the three types.

Each of the three has its own cause,

but in the end, it means they all currently have double eyelids.

2. Diagnosis of Each Type of Double Eyelid and Before/After Double Eyelid Removal

These natural, congenital double eyelids

can sometimes look fine with a thin line like A,

but in other cases, like B or C, the line is large and thick, making it look awkward and heavy.

Also, like D, some people have a double eyelid on only one side, creating a severe asymmetry.

Surgically created double eyelids can also be acceptable with a moderate line like E,

but they can become thick and burdensome like F,

or, like G, the surgical double eyelid can loosen and become a multiple-fold crease.

In addition, as with H, some double eyelids appear naturally over time, either suddenly or gradually, as the skin sags with age.

Now let’s look at the methods for removing them.

There are two broad surgical methods for removing double eyelids:

<incision methods> and <non-incision> methods,

and among incision methods, there are skin excision methods and non-excision methods.

In double eyelid removal surgery, the non-incision method has the advantages of no scar and fast recovery.

However, it can only be performed on double eyelids that are very recent or not very deep, such as multiple folds,

so its range of application is very limited and the chance of recurrence is high.

That is why incision methods are used in most double eyelid removal surgeries.

Incision methods can be applied to anyone,

and can remove double eyelids regardless of how long they have existed, their shape and form, or their cause and condition.

Incision double eyelid removal surgery (skin excision)

The photos above show before-and-after results of an incision-based double eyelid removal procedure that includes skin excision.

It can be applied in various situations, such as when the distance between the eyes and eyebrows is wide or when excess skin causes multiple folds,

and it is the most reliable double eyelid removal method with the lowest recurrence rate in the long term.

Before surgery, the eye shape and condition are checked to determine the surgical method and the amount of skin to be excised,

and the surgery is performed according to the design to remove the double eyelids.

Incision double eyelid removal surgery (non-excision)

The photos above show before-and-after results of an incision-based double eyelid removal procedure performed without skin excision.

This is a surgical method that can be used for people who want the double eyelid removed and the eye to become a bit smaller into a true monolid

(+ people who do not want or feel burdened by their eyes becoming larger), and as you can see, the double eyelid is removed well.

Even without skin excision, an incision is made on the upper eyelid to release the adhesion of the double eyelid,

so when the eyes are closed, the incision line may be visible.

Sometimes, after double eyelid removal surgery, this kind of flesh-colored tape is applied closely to the upper eyelid.

This tape plays a supportive role in helping the eyelid settle properly.

Even if it feels awkward and uncomfortable, please keep it in place and do not let it come off or remove it yourself until the hospital provides care.

4. Recovery and Results

In fact, to see good results like those in the before-and-after photos above,

there needs to be enough time for the wound to heal.

During this recovery period, swelling can make the outcome look different before it settles.

Right after surgery, the eyelashes may turn outward and lift,

and the incision line may appear large like a double eyelid, making it seem as if the double eyelid has not been removed.

Also, until the eyes settle, the eyelids may not look smooth, and due to differences in swelling, both sides may look different;

but as time passes, they gradually change into a natural monolid,

and in the process, the eye shape gradually becomes more even.

If eye correction is performed together with skin excision during double eyelid removal surgery,

it can make eyes that looked sleepy and tired, like ptosis before surgery, appear clearer,

and the line gradually changes into a monolid over time, eventually becoming a complete monolid.

During recovery, the eyes may feel stinging and dry,

and there may be redness and a foreign-body sensation, causing significant discomfort.

These symptoms may improve as the recovery period passes,

so you do not need to worry too much about the discomfort right away ^^

What you experience during recovery can also affect how the eyes look when closed.

The most noticeable things are bruising and swelling, and these usually disappear within one or two months.

The scar from the incision line and redness improve, but they need enough time,

and in some cases, the eyes may not close completely after surgery;

incomplete eye closure gradually improves, but it also takes time for the eyes to close normally again.
