No surgery is easy, of course, but
ptosis correction surgery can be considered one of the most detail-sensitive procedures.
The reason is Hering's law.
Hering's law means that both eyes receive and act on the same signals through one brain.
For example, when one eye opens well and the other does not,
the brain sends strong signals to both eyes in order to open the weaker eye as much as possible.
If ptosis correction is performed on the eye that does not open well while both eyes are receiving strong signals,
then the eye opens well even without the brain sending signals as strong as before,
so the brain will send weaker signals, right? And to both eyes equally.
In this case, the eye that used to open well under the strong signal receives a relatively weaker signal than before,
so it opens slightly less.

This is the patient's preoperative eye condition.
Before surgery, the right eye (left in the photo) opened less than the left eye (right in the photo).
However, after dissecting the inner tissue during surgery,
it was confirmed that, contrary to this, the left eye (right in the photo) opened less than the right eye (left in the photo).
This is a real example of the Hering's law mentioned above,
and it seems that a previous surgery corrected the ptosis of the left eye (right in the photo), which did not open well,
causing the right eye (left in the photo) to open less.
As such, ptosis correction influenced by Hering's law
is not only about making the eye that does not open well open properly,
but also about balancing the two eyes to look similar,
which is why it is a very delicate and difficult surgery.
Let’s take a closer look at the before-and-after photos of our patients.
![[Rari Plastic Surgery] Why is ptosis correction for uneven eyes so difficult?!! (Point; Hering's law) image 2](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/tgzuf37zyh/naver_blog/laree2345/assets/by_hash/5f97c0b3a625a769baa0675597c56c30079ef6415e1d4b56fd5e61a398ed58ac.jpg)
Looking at this patient's preoperative photo,
the double eyelid lines are clearly different on both sides, and the eye size is also different.
Eye size refers not to the double eyelid line, but to the amount of pupil exposure.
The right eye (left in the photo) shows more of the pupil (eyeball) than the left eye (right in the photo).
Because the degree to which both eyes open is different, ptosis correction must be adjusted to different heights
so that when the eyes are opened, both eyes can appear similar after surgery, as seen in the postoperative result.

Looking at this patient's preoperative photo,
both eyes had difficulty opening, but there was still a difference in eye size.
The right eye (left in the photo) was less open than the left eye (right in the photo).
So, with ptosis correction surgery, the eye size was increased by about 1.5 to 2 times,
making it possible for the eyes to open wide without much effort.
Compared with the eyes before surgery, they definitely look bigger and clearer,
and the overall impression appears much brighter and more lively.

This is a particularly more difficult case.
Looking at the postoperative photos of the patients who received ptosis correction above,
you can see that the eyes became larger, but the double eyelid lines all became lower.
When ptosis correction is performed, the eyes open more easily than before,
so in most cases the double eyelid line becomes lower than before.
However, in this patient, the double eyelid line was also made visible while performing ptosis correction.
If the double eyelid line is too thick, it can reduce the effect of ptosis correction,
so the possible line height differs from person to person and may be limited,
but it is also possible to perform ptosis correction while making the line moderately visible.
For the reasons above, achieving both ptosis correction and a double eyelid line
is very delicate and difficult.

Today, we talked about ptosis correction, an eye surgery at the intersection of ophthalmology and plastic surgery.
When people think of double eyelid surgery, they naturally look for a plastic surgery clinic,
but when they think of ptosis surgery, quite a few people look for an ophthalmology clinic,
perhaps because the word "eye" is included.
Ophthalmology is a specialty focused on direct diseases of the eyeball itself,
and it cannot be said to be specialized in eye shape.
Therefore, if you do not have problems in daily life but are concerned about the details and want a delicate ptosis correction surgery,
plastic surgery is much more effective^^
